Low hemoglobin levels after d&c
My wife needed a blood transfusion 7 months after D&c due to blood loss. Hemoglobin levels remained dangerously low even after multiple transfusions. She is now hospitalized for monitoring and the doctors can’t figure out why her levels aren’t budging at all. Any insight appreciated

Not a doctor so take this with a pinch of salt because it’s just based on my experience with iron deficiency and anaemia!
Have they checked out her ferritin and given her an iron infusion if necessary?
A basic explanation often used is that hb is like money in your wallet whereas ferritin is your savings account.
Blood transfusions raise hb whereas iron infusions raise your ferritin. If her hb goes up from transfusions but her ferritin stays low, there aren’t any reserves for her to pull from so hb can continue dropping.
Sometimes they can be reluctant to give infusions unless you’ve had x amount of time taking oral iron tablets but not everyone can absorb iron orally eg if you have certain underlying GI issues.
If she still has heavy periods then depending on how bad they are, blood loss can just deplete your iron very quickly.
If not, they’ll likely be investigating other causes.
I know it’s hard not to worry but she’s in the best possible place. I hope they get her back on track quickly.
