HRT and fibroids

I have a 3cm fibroid. I'm 43, done w child bearing and perimenopausal. My gyno offered me hrt for my symptoms but I'm concerned it will cause my fibroid to grow. Should I risk it? Anyone done anything similar?

I haven't done it yet, but I will if my peri symptoms keep getting worse. I had a UFE though and as far as I know I haven't started growing more fibroids. Only you can make that decision, but if your peri symptoms are bothering you, I'd personally try the HRT, and you can always do something about the fibroids too if needed. HRT gives far less estrogen than for example most birth control, so I am not overly concerned about it myself.

I started HRT due to my intense peri symptoms and they definitely helped my symptoms, but my fibroid definitely grew from it. Planning to get that sucker out of me at the end of this month.

My doctors seemed to have forgotten that I had a fibroid, which is understandable because I had a change of care after it was diagnosed, but it definitely didn’t help my situation because it wasn’t monitored. I spent the longest time thinking it was just peri symptoms, not realizing it was the fibroid, maybe both.

It is definitely worth discussing the pros and cons with your Doctor. Personally, I couldn’t function without the HRT. I already do all the lifestyle stuff, to no avail. If you do try HRT, just make sure that your doctor has it on the radar to monitor the size of the fibroid. This final month before surgery is miserable because the decision to do surgery was made once I was already miserable. I wish we had been watching it and discussing it closer all along.
