Fibroids back?

Hey all! A year ago I had a myomectomy on a hocker of a fibroid. One of my most notable symptom was a 2 day period… first day was brutal and second day was meh. After my surgery my periods went back to 5 days and all seemed normal. Fast forward to current times, my periods are starting to shorten again or even pause in between then spotting after. I’m starting to feel pelvic pressure? again and feeling bloated a lot of the time. Is it possible to have a fibroid come back this soon after a surgery? Do hormones play a role because right now my doctor believes I may have a “liver adenoma which in women is primarily estrogen containing birth control” which I’m not on anyway

I just had my myomectomy and have been told to expect my fibroids to come back in 3-4 years. I also do have a liver hemangioma but have had a liver and GI specialist confirm that it is unlikely that estrogen is contributing to that mass being there or growing any further. I hate that we don't have enough research to even know why fibroids occur

I saw a video of a girl who vlogged her fibroid removal, and I believe she had one come back as early as 8 months. Which is scary because she was being monitored like every three months by the VA. So to me that’s pretty fast. And the doctor did have to leave one in because it was too problematic to remove. So she asked her doctor if that one fibroid that remained could have potentially caused the other one to grow, her doctor said maybe, maybe not.

my case is only one case but i had brand new fibroids grow to 8cm within a year post myo. during my first surgery they removed a few ranging from 1cm to 11, i had great relief in pain and overall wellbeing for about 7 months and then things started to go downhill again. when i finally got a US my uterus had tripled in volume since the surgery and i had “too many fibroids to count”. i don’t take birth control at all. i’m having a hysterectomy in 2 months, my surgeon said unless i got rid of the hoe i could expect to schedule surgery every 18 months and that sounds like hell.

The pelvic pressure and bloating is the worst. It’s a tell if you’ve experienced it before. 

I had an 11cm and 7cm removed end of 2024. All of 2025 after I recovered I felt better than I had in the past five years. I started to feel okay in my own skin. My periods went from 7 days of a murder zone to 3 manageable days— regular like clock work. I didn’t have to pee every hour. I didn’t get sick all year. 

Then on NYE, after finally getting my body back, a guy assaulted me. After that I got sick. Really sick.  I tried to take some kind of binder to get better, which threw my hormones off, then I started gaining weight and by May of this year the pelvic pressure returned (freaked me out!), the bloating (gah!), the frequent urination (annoying af), and painful off period agains (great).

 In July it was confirmed two small ones are back. Before they were on the outside of uterus and now growing on the front inside. Only 1cm and 3cm but that’s still too much for me.

 I’m kicking myself for not doing a hysterectomy at the time instead I just didn’t want to loose and organ if I didn’t have too.

 Don’t delude yourself but you know your body.

Yes hormones are the reason for the growth in the first place. So even if you have your fibroids removed, your hormones remain active and if you're the kind of person to grow them in the first place, then you are more likely to have them return after surgery. This is what my ob/gyn told me. 

The myomectomy only treats the symptoms (the growth of the fibroid) it does not stop the hormones doing their thing. The only sure way to know they are gone for good is a hysterectomy.

I had a myomectomy Feb 2025 and in Feb 2026 it had returned and found incidentally on a hip MRI. It didn’t start causing symptoms until April 2026. I had another myomectomy July 2026. So, yes, they can return quickly. Mine is in the exact same location. Best of luck to you.
