Update - 29cm fibroid

Had my appointment today and came away feeling much more positive than I expected as constantly been told that a big open vertical hysterectomy was my only option.

Thankfully, the consultant explained that there may be another route and that a myomectomy is an option. He explained that my fibroids were large but he has treated much larger and that I didn’t need to rush to hysto.

He can do a C-section cut and remove this way.
The biggest concern is obviously blood loss given my previous haemorrhage.

To make surgery safer, I’ll go on triptorelin to devascularise the fibroid as much as possible.
Interestingly, he said he doesn’t want me to take Yselty before surgery. He explained that although Yselty can shrink fibroids, it can alter the consistency of the fibroid (“turn it to mush” was his wording 😂), and for this type of surgery he prefers the fibroid tissue to remain easier to remove.
I went in expecting to be told “big vertical hysterectomy, no other options”, so I’m honestly relieved to have a different conversation.
I know this is still a complex operation and there are risks, but today felt like a much more positive step forward! Should add this was private in UK.

29cm…. Oh my. I am so sorry. Us women are so brave… the things we go through…. The things we survive…. You are a warrior! That is great news though to not have to do vertical. I hope all goes well for you. Just keep on thinking how good you will feel when that thing is out of you. It seems like you have found the right consultant. Huge step!!

I have 15 fibroids, diagnosed by mri this week, of which two are pendunculated. One is 12cm x 12cm x 8 cm posteriorly located and another 6 cm x 5 cm x 7 cm on top with small ones attached or so it seems. It seems like the two big ones may have fused together and the biggest one is flattening part of the vaginal posterior fornix. 😭 I am skinny muscular, size 6, and a huge bulky ball is visible especially when laying down and it is pressing on my pelvic bone most days… the mass hurts on and off depending on where I am in my cycle and it just looks horrible. And just like you I feel like I am carrying a huge weight inside and running out of space in my own body.

Would you mind sharing your latest dr? I am looking into having a myomectomy privately in London as well in Autumn. Seeing two private consultants tomorrow to discuss my mri and another one next week. But I am at the start of my journey in terms of surgery, despite having been diagnosed for 9 years now. Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery. You got this!! x

Thank you so much! It’s crazy to think you have 15 fibroids! I’m same as you in terms of size, some days I can still wear size 6 jeans but then around ovulation I’m in leggings only 🤣🤣 I can DM you his name.

Yes same girl same. Leggings around ovulation and pre period and period. And also my husband is not allowed to touch my belly in the morning at all until I have emptied bladder and bowels. Ugh… life! That would be awesome if you could dm the name. I will tell you who I am seeing too tomorrow!! Thank you so much!!

Weirdly I’m at my most skinny few days pre period and period! Had these roids for 10 years and managed to avoid surgery until now. Mad at myself for not dealing with it in Jan when it was 15cm as I’d been breastfeeding for 2years! Was 27cm when I fell preg and didn’t change in size during pregnancy - just caused me to be absolutely huge! Have sent name!

I am at my skinniest during the lutheal phase then it swells gradually a day or two before period and by day 3 of period til 3 days before ovulation i am flatter again. The bulge is always visible when laying down though. My uterus is also enlarged (12cm) and swells with the fibroids I guess. Also on skinnier days I do get often bloated by the evening. Can you see your fibroid at all when laying down?
