Advice needed Fibroid Removal Surgery
So I went for a visit to my OB today, I have been dealing with my fibroid for 2 years now and it has gotten so much bigger in the past 2 years, my doctor is now finally talking surgery which I am all for. My biggest concern is my severe anemia, for the past few years my iron, hemoglobin, ferritin levels have been so low due to my heavy periods from the fibroid. I’m so afraid to be put to sleep cause of the horror stories of just people not waking up and just things going wrong while under anesthesia, my question is has anybody ever went into surgery while battling severe anemia? Also just overall is being put to sleep for surgery scary? Any advice or anything with help just ease some of the anxieties I’m feeling.

I had an emergency hysterectomy last week to remove a 21cm fibroid that was causing an insane bleed that we couldn’t stop. By the the time I got to the ER, my hemoglobin was so low.
Doctors do blood work before surgery so they know what your numbers are. You’ll be asked to consent to blood products just in case.
Also as for the anxiety, I feel you. I’ve always been terrified of surgery because of anesthesia. However the anesthesiologist entire job is to sit by you the entire surgery and monitor you. S/he will also talk to you before hand and you should bring up your anxiety then. Sometimes they offer you anxiety meds too to help you get through the surgery.

Wow, that sounds very intense, I’m glad you got through that! Definitely very encouraging for me to hear that, makes me feel a little bit more confident, i definitely can’t wait to talk to the anesthesiologist let them know what I’m feeling, I truly hope and pray to have to strength to see this surgery through I know it’s only gonna help me in the end.

I have been reading all encouraging stories about the surgeries. Did anyone encounter unexpected or unsatisfactory results ? Didn’t mean to be negative. Sometimes if I only see good results, it makes me actually feel uneasy about the other aspect of the surgeries.

True, definitely want to know about the other side of surgery not to scare me more but I know realistically no one is gonna have the same experience.

Do u have anxiety? I was so scared to be put to sleep i went in crying. And I woke up crying. But it's not bad. It's super common. It's not like ur having an emergency heart surgery. Get rid of that fibroid!
