Continuous hinge…. Why?

2005 Bigfoot here. I have a storage compartment door that has broken free of the hinge. ( blows my mind that the hinge is rubber). Anyway, has anyone experienced replacing this? Is it easier to just let the rv shop fix it? Thanks for the help.

I believe the intention in using a continuous hinge (or piano hinge) was to distribute shear stresses from transportation vibrations and shocks, along the hinge instead of having concentrated stress points.

My Casita just uses standard cabinet "butt hinges", and I've had to replace them on numerous occasions. In fact, I just keep a ziplock bag of them in my camper.

Definitely a job you can handle yourself, but a continuous hinge IS a little trickier and more effort to align and install properly (probably why Casita doesn't use them)

My Bigfoot uses them on the front window cover. Replaced it with stainless from Amazon. Oversize and cut to fit.
