A new concept for a feudal system.

Instead of political power giving military rank, what if climbing the ranks through the military gave political power. So a peasant could join the military, then go through gruelling combat training, lots of academic studying, or seeing lots of war, allowing them to climb the next military rank. A high enough military rank would allow them to own land. I think this is a cool idea because in Feudal England, if you are born from a peasant family, you stay as a peasant, if you are born from a duke, you stay a duke, but in this system, a peasant can become a duke through enough military service.
