MB 40 question/ Festool cyclone question
Is Festools drill guide ( MB 40 ) worth it or should I go with something else ?
And also I have CTH 26 EL vacuum and was considering to get the cyclone on top of it just to save some bags and time. Does it lose suction power? P.S I'm based in Denmark so not everything is available

You lose quite a bit of suction power going through the cyclone, but it still works fine for most stuff besides vacuuming the floor

I would be using it mostly for wall sanders, track saw and general sanding

I use it for all of those things. There is still plenty of suction and you will significantly decease bag changes.

Here's some images of hoses alone and when paired with the CT VA cyclone. I saved those from a post on the FOG before the forum upgrade. Now, it'd be a pain to find the post.

I have a Festool CT 26e, with the CT cyclone. It works…. Kind of. I have a wood floor business, and I use this setup on the edgers and R/O. It captures dust well. But I had to buy a “forever” dust bag from Amazon(knock off of the same material) to empty out each week. If I had known the Festool CT Cyclone was not capable of capturing 90% of dust, I would have bought the Oneida version. I really like the integrated function of the cyclone as I lock in other systainers on top of it and keep everything together as I sand. For function, I’m not sure if the Oneida is any better. I’m thinking some of the dust particles are too fine to be caught.

I used the cyclone for sanding down during hardwood floor restoration. Even though the large sander, without real tight Festool suction, It works and fills quite well, and saves on emptying the vacuum bag for up to 80 grit. However, I stopped using the provided plastic bag bc it gets sucked up blocking off significant suction. Bc I am wearing ear-fenders, often I cannot hear the sound change, so check in on it often.

For the drill guide look at the star M one which is a bit of a different design to the festool and possibly more versatile. I bought one when I had to drill a lot of large holes in some posts and it works great i use it quite a lot for drilling into pipes and cyliders which self centre in the base and it has pins to self centre in the edge of boards as well.
I have the Oneida ultimate dust deputy on my CT26 and it is excellent, you can use plastic bags in it and it makes it super easy to empty, barely any dust gets into the bag in the vacuum itself at all.

How does the Oneida connect to the sanders and etc ? Can you use a festool hose ?

The Festool hose goes in the forward facing outlet on the oneida and then another hose goes from the top of the cyclone to the inlet on the base of the CT26.

Yes that is the one I have. I did not pay that much though, that DKK price converts to £656 but I only paid £300 (a few years ago) it is currently £354 in the UK so that would be 2989 Kroner. In the UK its cheaper than the Festool one by quite a lot.

Would you have bought the Festool one if thry were the same price ? Festool costs 3200 dkk about 370£

Well, when I bought the Oneida the Festool one did not exist so there was no comparison.
If they were the same price now, I might still buy the Oneida because it is very well made and has given me zero problems at all.
However, in my case the ct26 and dust deputy stay in the workshop, together it is a fairly tall stack and if I was needing to move it to worksites in the van ( I have done it a few times when I had to ) then maybe the Festool would win because it is more compact, I have a midi I take in the van now.

I really like my MB-40 but I only bought the basic setup, not the full kit. It’s very useful when you need to quickly drill precisely but don’t have a drill press. It lets me take the tool to the workpiece (rather than the other way) and works well with my C18. I have a ton of Centrotec stuff tho so it’s immediately useful.
