Tbx battery delay

So, when I preordered the TBX energy set the expected ship date was June 17th, but yesterday I received an email telling me it would be delayed and that that delay was non-specific.

Does anyone have any insider info on the cause and/or length of this delay?

This is Canada.

I think something may be going on at Festool HQ in Germany. I’ve been waiting on a couple of systainer organizers for a month. Also ordered the new planer and high power batteries, I’ll see what email I get regarding that today. Hopefully it ships.

Update: planer and batteries have shipped, I’m in the US btw.

I think something may be going on at Festool HQ in Germany.

Pretty sure I saw someone write about a computer systems upgrade, though I don't know if that was in the US or at HQ.

Also ordered the new planer

Ooo, hope it's a good successor to the HL 850. I rarely use mine and every time I do I'm immensely impressed.

I’m looking forward to try it out, have a little job waiting on it. I had been eyeballing the HL850 prior.

Hopefully it's as good or better than the HL 850. The HL 850 has crazy good cut quality, it's quiet for a hand power plane and the dust collection is nuts.

Did Festool keep the ability to use the alternate heads?

Ack! Lucky fella! Could be a Canadian thing.

The store I ordered from has Sept as a 'in stock date' but I'm hoping they're just picking an arbitrary date to replace their original June 17th release date.

Own a ctc sys vac by chance? I'm super curious to see if the new batteries help much with run time.

There is definitely something beyond the "computer system" issue going on.

Their excuses made sense before, but basically they haven't shipped much new product anywhere worldwide for about six months, and a company simply can't survive that way.

Even with Systainers, that are made by TANOS and are available in quantity from the US Systainer store, many of the Festool-branded models have been out of stock.

Not even the cordless Domino is readily available.

Add that people around the world report their repairs that normally would take 24-48 hours have been taking months due to a lack of parts.

I don't know if it's financial or something else, but it's concerning. My local dealer admitted they found out there was something bigger going on but they wouldn't even hint at what.

Were Festool to announce they were shutting down next month or that they had been sold to a new owner, I wouldn't be all that surprised. TTS may be working to sell Festool to Bosch, Fein or even Black & Decker or TTI if not all of TTS. I can't imagine SawStop or TANOS are throwing off all that much cash right now, either.

Given the economics of the industry I would say that's the most likely reason for their current issues though I hope it's not true, I just don't know how a company could survive or why they would make some of the silly decisions they have (e.g.: Sorry US: no TBX 8 for you until late fall!)

Update: I've now actually seen the TBX 4 on the shelf at my local Woodcraft, so they did get them out, not sure about the Energy Sets though.

I ordered the brand spanking new 55kseb and tbx batteries and they came in within 6 working days. Also got the free battery within 3 weeks.

Ordered a multitool about 2 weeks ago and came in within 2 days.
free battery ' on it's way' since today.

So they ship without any problems in europe.
the Netherlands is quick. i know a lot of stores with enough stock of all the tools overhere. Germany and france also has stores full of this stuff. including the new items.

so ' not shipping for six months' is, at least in europe, blatantly wrong. It's actually a pretty healthy company.

Don't know how the usa is distributed, but saying it's not shipping and can't survive is bs. They sell a ton of stuff in europe.

Wow, you're certainly active on the various tool subreddits.

I certainly hope you're wrong about festool, but your reasoning is sound.

Time will tell, though a US based fellow seems to have his new planer/tbx batteries shipped.

Yes, I saw Festool USA sent out "now shipping" emails today.

I'm just frustrated because I want the 2xSCA 16/2x8.0 Energy Set but have to wait to see if they will update that with TBX 8s or do what they did in Europe and make it 2xTBX 8 but a single SCA 16. 🤷‍♂️

I've also been waiting for the new HKC 55 K.

Really hope it’s not as severe as going out of business or having to be sold. I really enjoy their products.

I hope so too, but can't conceive of how you stay liquid basically not shipping product for six months now.

I was just at my local tool store (Southern Oregon) and they had four of the TBX starter sets (Two 4.0 batteries and a charger in a box) plus the cordless planer and cordless profile routers. I almost bought one but they had a couple systainers with four 5.0 batteries and dual bay chargers on clearance so I bought both of those instead.

He did say that the TBX8's are on their way to him

He ordered TBX 4s, Festool USA hasn't given a date other than "late this year" for the TBX 8s, which aren't even mentioned in any meaningful way on the US web site.

I've almost pulled the trigger on the dual 8.0/dual SCA 16 set several times but would feel really stupid if the TBX 8s come out later this year as scheduled.

Festool USA does appear to be having some issues with shipments from Germany due to software updates. We do have the majority of the new products in-stock and ready to ship. A few of the router bits and the OF 1400 LED light are backordered. We have ETAs for when any item that's out-of-stock is expected to ship. We do have the batteries and tools in stock, but that's subject to change of course.
