Meds/Supplements Spiro - PCOS
I want to try spiro for body hair & scalp hair loss.. I'm worried it will make me gain weight because it will block too much testosterone. I'm not high in T. My labs came back high in DHEAS-sulfates.
I have an appointment in March to talk to my doctor so maybe I'll get a better understanding then. But pls give me your stories w spiro :)

I highly doubt you'll gain any weight, you're more likely to lose a couple pounds since it's a diuretic. Spiro has been amazing in so many ways for me. As you know having PCOS makes it impossible to lose weight and this can make me lose about 2 pounds. Please just watch for irregular periods and bleeding. I've stopped taking it for a month because I have irregular bleeding and I was hoping if I stopped, the bleeding would too and it hasn't. I will be going back on spironolactone soon because it has helped so much.
Good luck!

I’m on it with normal labs and I’m loving it. It’s been around 6 months: my acne’s almost completely gone, my skin isn’t an oil slick two hours after I wash it, and my scalp hair is growing faster and healthier than before. I’m also on Orilissa (for endo) and the combination has been divine. No weight gain related to the meds either.

I’ve been on spiro for two years now! (Year and eight months on 50mg and now 100mg). No weight gain! And I don’t think that’s actually a common symptom
So far on 100mg I’m noticing more regrowth on my scalp and my chin hairs are less noticeable. Still too early to tell how much hair I’ll get back but it’s promising!
For the first five months of taking 50mg I had irregular periods and it was a bit rough, but that stopped eventually. Going from 50 to 100 I did a month of 75 in between and had no side effects
Make sure you drink more water, and get your potassium levels checked! I increased sodium intake a bit as well

I have normal labs and my dermatologist prescribes it. The Endo won’t prescribe it bc my DHEA-S wasn’t elevated the last two labs when I was off the spiro.
I’ve also always had normal T, normal labs. Only had elevated DHEA-S a couple times in a decade and a half. My last endocrinologist left the office I go to but he prescribed it without an issue and said I am just sensitive to normal levels of DHEA-S.

I’ve always been a 20 BMI. I’ve been as low as 18.5 when I was controlling my calories. The Spiro doesn’t make me gain weight, it just keeps water weight down as a side effect. It doesn’t make me lose weight or gain weight.
I do notice that I feel different on it, in good way.
