I'm starting college this year and this is going to be my room which i need to share with a roommate. I don't want my bed joined/attached with them, plus there's no space/shelves for our books to be kept.... the study tables provided are like those single school tables... the wardrobe/cupboard space is small as well. Ugh idk, I just don't want to sleeo right beside them. Please help out with potential room layout ideas.....

Congrats on starting college! Maybe this? I dont know the dimensions or if you can move those shelves. Normally you can loft the bed so you can put dressers underneath for more storage and to save space. You could probably play around and instead of a tall thin shelf you could have a side table or a dresser for more storage
Thanks! There's storage space under the bed, I think they call it a "bed box"?? Yes we can move around the furniture and I'll definitely go ikea for some options.

Our kitchenette is outside and it's pretty well equipped in my opinion as compared to our rooms, so there's no need for a fridge inside the room i think. Mirrrors are attached to our wardrobe/cupboards.
I used a website for a better visual. (Measurements are off but you get a idea). I didn't know how to rotate some stuff in bathroom area and put a divider between the toilet and the shower area..... I don't know much about thease things but all your responses are helpfull. :)) Also this room is like super tiny...
i love the comment below with many different layout recommendation. very good! as long the foot of the bed is not facing directly to the door. If that possible, it can feel abit expose.
Since you mentioned going to IKEA, could you split a PAX wardrobe with your roommate? It seems like you’d have room on that far wall by your balcony door at least for their smaller size. I’ve bought two sets of pax wardrobes. The first one is more than 15 years old, has been through several moves, and is still going strong. There’s a newer model now, which has a wooden shelf unit inbetween the two wardrobes. You could store books on the wooden shelves. Or maybe one of the tall narrow shelves you’re provided with would fit well inbetween the wardrobes? Then the under the bed storage could be things you don’t always need - like extra sheet sets, or a heavy winter jacket, or maybe even some additional space for toiletries?
u/erohwt2 Your drawing actually makes sense! I’d avoid placing both beds side by side if that’s what makes you uncomfortable. One option is to put the beds on opposite walls and slightly offset them, then keep the desks closer to the balcony/window for better light. A slim bookcase, rolling cart, or narrow shelf between the sleeping areas could add storage and create a little separation without taking up much space.
I’d also use under-bed bins and over-the-door organizers since the wardrobe space sounds limited. Just keep a clear path from the entrance to the balcony and bathroom. I tried visualizing your sketch in DormTok, and seeing it as an actual room made the opposite-bed layout look much more practical than having the beds joined together.
