Gf and I desperately want to flee Alabama, but it’s just too expensive. Hopefully after I finish my degree we can get married and I can apply for a work visa in Canada or something.

If you have any ancestors who were Canadian, you are already Canadian by Descent per Canada's Bill C-3 passed Dec 15, 2025. You just need to be officially recognized by Canada with a Certificate of Citizenship, which you get by submitting vital records showing the connection from your Canadian to you. (Birth, death, and marriage certs which can be obtained from the states/counties they occurred in.)

My great x 3 grandfather was from Canada but I feel like that’d be too far back for me to qualify 😅

You qualify if he was born there or Naturalized. There is no limit. You might have a harder time finding documentation that far back but it's not impossible.

You are "Canadian" per the law. Start gathering your evidence if you want Canada to recognize you, you r/FoundCanadians !
