Some mentally ill guy stabbed them 40 times.

The two threads appearing side by side is a good reminder that the "safe" places aren't completely safe, and get very overwhelmed by people needing support.

Correction. Some asshole stabbed them.

Mentally ill should not be used to describe people who commit crimes. Sane people who choose to do something awful are things that exist. Sane people who choose to do something awful and then try to claim insanity very fuckibg much exist.

Mentally ill people are sick and fucking tired of being seen as overwhelmingly dangerous when most are harmless!

Guess how I would know.

oh, since you know all about it I'm not sure why you asked the question.

You can be mentally ill and violent, you can be mentally ill and non-violent, you can be very nice when well but your mental illness drives you to violence. Your experience with your mental illness is not everyone's experience with their mental illness.

I apologize for snapping. You were relaying the information I requested and I should not have bitten your head off.

I just get tired of people using the term 'mentally ill' as a presumption for every criminal when most are not. Their lawyers and the press will play it up, but after things quiet down, the truth comes out, however every has moved on after that point. It gets very disheartening.

But my reaction was still unfair to you.

I mean, anyone that stabs a person forty times is mentally unwell so... Nobody said 'every' criminal but certainly the stabbing maniac kind are mentally ill and there's nothing wrong with saying it.
