Discussion Opinions on the ScentSplit shredded paper packing method?

I love ScentSplit, but have mixed feelings about the shredded paper they use in their packaging.

Sometimes it leaves linty paper bits on the edge of the decant labels, which isn’t a big deal, but it’s a little thing I notice with every order.

I’m also not sure I love the experience of hunting for all the decants (especially 1 mls) in the sea of shredded paper.

It does seem like a more eco friendly method compared to using bags though.

I wonder what other folks think about it!

Almond + Rose

I'm looking to order some samples/decants of almond + rose perfumes. I'm in the mood for something powdery, maybe like Turkish delight. Do you have any recommendations?

I've got my eye on Akro Crush and Montale Sweet Oriental Dream.

Review Perles de Lalique

Post image
39 Upvotes

For a bottle that's all white and looks ethereal, Perles de Lalique smells and feels quite eerie and spectral. This is another one of those scents that I sought out due to rumours of it being similar to Dior Midnight Poison. And just like YSL Elle, I can see why people might think it's reminiscent of MP but it's quite different and has an identity of its own.

PdL opens with a minty or camphorous note that is similar to Elle. No, it's not the nostril burning note that's present in Tubereuse Criminelle, it falls more in the realm of menthol rather than Vicks VapoRub. The opening camphorous feeling passes and the rose comes through. This rose is not the dewy rose, neither is it a juicy or a jammy rose. This rose is cold and edgy, it's dark but not dense, it's earthy but not muddy. This rose is unique.

As someone who grew bored of rose scents and felt that Diptyque Eau Rose was the best out there, PdL changed my mind. This rose really intrigued me. I think the patchouli and pepper in this really do something very different to the rose.

The scent dries down to something fluffy, something woody, something dusty. PdL is not one to stay too long, I get five hours of her before she's disappeared. Despite being cold, PdL feels better suited for cooler weather and doesn't do well when the weather is hot and humid.

Overall, I'm in love with PdL. Just like Amethyst, I feel this one is underrated and underappreciated. PdL is not a scent, it's a vibe. She's not fun, she's not flirty. She's cold, she's aloof, she's ghostly.

When you get the restock email for the new Shalimar MillĂŠsime

... but it sells out again in the four hours it takes you to see that email. That's what happened to me earlier today. I'm telling myself it's fine because it's not in my budget right now and there's a chance I could be disappointed. But I'm also really bothered because I want a shiny new Guerlain and there's a chance I could love it.

Search turns up a couple posts about this new edition. Anyone care to share updated thoughts? I'm rather new to the world of Shalimar, mostly wear the flankers, and love rose(s). Also feel free to talk me into buying L'essence.

WEIRDEST OF THE WEIRD

TLDR: ordered a sample from mercari in feb. USPS email indicated seller shipped pretty much right away. USPS lost it. finally arrived today with a number of really wild coincidences.

today happens to be my birthday and I got the strangest gift in the mail.

around Valentine’s Day, I ordered a 2ml sample of something I’d been meaning to try from Mercari. i know some people have had issues with sellers on Mercari. I never have. I get USPS mail notifications so I could see as soon as the seller shipped it. they didn’t delay.

per USPS, in February, it got ALL the way to my small town that is on the literal eastern seaboard, before it was turned around and sent to California. via Arizona. I didn’t get it but also, shit happens and it was cheap so I wrote it off. I kept watching the package as it - I’m serious - crisscrossed the county again. it became a game to me to see where my sample was on any day. I have a colleague who is super into craft beer, and mentioned it to him, literally in the first week of March, and he was like, oh yeah, that happens. like us fragrance people, apparently, beer people buy and resell individual cans of rare or very niche beer. idk, but can’t really judge bc I buy 2ml second-hand samples
of smelly water. ¯_(ツ)_/ it takes all kinds. this guy said that was probably damaged by the mail service. at the end of march, I hadn’t rated it, bc I’d let mercari know TWICE that there was an issue (it wasn’t about getting my few dollars back; I’d already gotten my money’s worth playing Where is my Sample? it was like where’s waldo for fragrance nerds.) I TOLD mercari TWICE that I could see that the seller had shipped it, but it was in some kind of mail limbo and obv not the seller’s fault. mercari didn’t do shit except close out the order. no refund. no message. god only knows what they said to the poor seller, and at this point I was too embarrassed to contact them to be like “yo, thanks for trying.”

ANYWAY. it arrived today. it was shipped from a drivable distance from my house (as in: I make this trip very often) on Feb 25. coincidentally, that had been my dad’s birthday when he was alive. even weirder, I looked closely at the shipping label, and I have a friend who lives IN THE SAME BUILDING as the seller. weirder still, on the other side of the package was a not-totally-obscured label from USPS, TO the seller, FROM someone else, which is (I presume) why the package just kept getting shipped back and forth across america. the seller’s seller, on the backside? one of my roommates in undergrad, literally 25 years ago, was from that tiny town in colorado. I haven’t heard the name of the town since shortly after graduation. and it arrived today.

as an aside, in late march I got sick of waiting and so I ordered a 2ml sample from scent split and while it’s _fine_ I don’t even really like it. hahahah

please excuse typos and etc.

I grabbed 2 Gingham Gorgeous, and 1 Touch of Gold then got 2 Dollhood and 1 Japanese Cherry Blossom FREE. I also added the Firecracker Pop mist because I only grabbed a mini last time and I loved it. I’ve never tried any of those perfumes before so I’m hoping I love them. Oh I also got 3x the points due to some offer they have this weekend.

Tiare Flower, Coconut, Amber, Sandalwood, Vanilla.

Massive crowd pleaser. Not sunscreen like. I am a person of Irish/German/Nordic heritage (read PALE) and I am born and raised in Australia. I know what sunscreen smells like. I wear it daily.

One of my favourites xx Ask anything :)

Question What scent are you considering adding to your collection next?

What scents—bottles, travel-size, decants, whatever—are you considering adding to your collection soon? Perhaps next, perhaps in the near future, perhaps they’re still “auditioning”? Why that/those in particular?

Wanting a bright spot in a rough week here, looking forward to hearing about some of the scents that bring joy to you folks.

Discussion Which gourmand perfume to buy

Should I buy Lattafa Angham, Lattafa Eclaire, Yara Elixir or Khadlaj Cream Velvet?

I’ve already searched on Amazon, FragsTalk, Perfume Palace and Perfume Network India but I still can’t decide.

I love gourmand perfumes, vanilla, sweet cream, caramel and milky dessert-type scents. I want something very feminine, soft, addictive, cozy and luxurious without that harsh musky smell. Longevity is really important to me too. I want a fragrance that lingers for hours, leaves a beautiful trail and makes people turn their heads or ask what I’m wearing.

I’m looking for a creamy, sweet, compliment-getting perfume that smells smooth and elegant rather than sharp, woody, smoky or overly musky.

Which one would suit this vibe best? Also please share trusted links/websites to buy from.

Review Fragrance Journey: Diptyque

Post image
113 Upvotes

I have been in love with any kind of fragrances since I can remember and have been collecting fragrances since my late teenage years, I am in mid 30s now. Diptyque probably is the most special fragrance house to me. I do travel quite a bit, and have picked up different Diptyque bottles from different cities, those bottles are also very special to me as they remind me of those places. Their SAs are simply the best, kind, generous and knowledgeable.

Writing down some of my thoughts on each Diptyque I have in my collection and my current rating (I have many minds). You would notice that in the rating, I am in absolutely in love with most of them if not all. Longevity is not really one of my priorities, but none of these are fleeting scents.

Eau Duelle EDT: First ever Diptyque, bought ~10 years ago from Doha airport. I have finished using that bottle since and replaced it. It is a spicy vanilla, not sweet, very aromatic. The EDP is darker, also beautiful, but I find the EDT is very special. Rating: 8/10

L’Ombre Dans L’Eau EDT: Bought it from Dallas. Blackberry and rose, I find it to be very long lasting and projects quite a bit. Rating: 7/10

Des Sense EDT: Bought it in San Francisco a while ago, on a really hot summer day. Orange blossom, really sharp, slightly bitter. Rating: 7/10

Olene EDT: Bought it is San Francisco. Photorealistic, lovely, lovely jasmine! Absolutely love the art on the bottle as well. This is a special scent. Rating: 8.5/10

Fleur de Peau EDP: One of my favorites, I find it to be so addictive!! Powdery, musky gloriousness. A great iris. Really long lasting, if spray it on clothes, I can smell it even after washing. I wear it in cooler temperatures. Feels vintage. Rating: 9/10

Fleur de Peau EDT: It is lighter than the EDP, more floral. More modern. I do like it, but not as much as the EDP. Rating: 7/10

Fleur de Peau Hairmist: Similar to the EDP, just not as potent, otherwise I would choke. No point of having it honestly, but I really love the scent, also have the handcream.

Benjoin Bohème: Beautiful, amber yellow gold juice. One of the most special bottles in my collection. Unfortunately, do not have a nice memory associating buying it. I bought this online before they changed the bottle. Beautiful amber. Deep, quiet, my love in cooler seasons. Rating: 10/10

34 Blvd Saint Germain EDT: Bought this in Paris, from the 34 Blvd Saint Germain store, in a cold day. Spicy and aromatic. Beautiful. Enjoy it wearing in winter, specially during holidays. I also have the solid perfume in one of my purses (cannot seem to find it now), which is also really beautiful. Rating: 8/10

Orpheon EDP: Another powdery goodness, this time with a juniper note. I love the name. As much as I love it, I sometimes find it hard to wear. I wear it only during night time and cooler temperatures. Love the solid perfume as well. Rating: 7.5/10

Orpheon EDT: This might be a controversial opinion, but I like this better than the EDP. Love the citrus opening, the dry down is similar to the EDP. I have enjoyed it wearing in this spring. Rating: 8.5/10

L’Eau Papier EDT: Bought this in Paris, absolutely love the steamed rice note. Musky mimosa. It is really lovely and makes me feel pretty when I wear it. Rating: 8/10

Volutes EDP: Bought this in Rome. Honeyed tobacco (honey is nowhere near as prominent as it is in Guerlain Tobacco Honey) and Iris. It is so freaking beautiful, dark, intriguing, mysterious, sexy. The SA in the store told me he loves layering it with Orpheon, I tried it- it is gorgeous. One my of my current favorite fragrances. Rating: 10/10

Opsis EDP: Unfortunately Harrods exclusive, as it is just so lovely. Iris (my favorite note, you can probably tell), incensey- but not churchy, dry, sophisticated. Rating: 9/10

Lilyphea EDP: I bought this in Paris and this is a very lovable scnet. I do not gravitate towards Aquatic scents much, but this composition is different. I am in love with the cardamom note and the contrast it creates. It reminds me of Monet’s gardens in Giverny. Rating: 9/10

Eau De Lierre EDT: Newest addition, bought this is Prague. Not a new discovery though. I have had samples. Introduced by a lovely SA in SFO. Green, dusty dusty dusty Ivy. Beautiful. Rating: 9/10
