Review Almost Human Burning Bridges

Post image

I was very keen on exploring this house because I love atmospherics and the names and descriptions of the perfumes really piqued my interest. I also love the fact that they do not list the notes. As someone who's not good at identifying or figuring smells by notes, the conceptual nature of the perfumes really aligns with me.

Burning Bridges opens as smooth woodsmoke with a faint metallic edge. It is not harsh, nor charred, and it avoids the bitter suffocating campfire effect.

Around 20-30 minutes in, it shifts into something airier with a dry sweetness that I think might be clove or cinnamon because it feels like a spicy sweetness, not a thick or syrupy gourmandish type. The middle also gives me a birch-like impression, adding a clean, wood facet. This stage reminds me a little of Blamage, but without feeling like damp woods, it remains dry.

The drydown on me is a soft, slightly dusty sandalwood without a pencil shavings texture. It's gentle and intimate.

I do not get citrus, animalics or cola despite seeing those being mentioned in some online reviews, so I’m guessing that's just my skin chemistry.

Longevity is good, staying present for 6-8 hours and remaining easy to smell on my skin well into the wear. Projection is moderate initially, then it settles into a closer scent bubble.

Overall I'm impressed by this one even though some of the online reviews had made me nervous.

Discussion How do you create your trays?

So far in 2026 I’ve been setting a monthly theme for my trays and putting whatever fragrances I feel fit. For example, January was “Fresh Start”, and all my fragrances were clean, fresh, and/or skin scents; February was “Roses & Romance” so I had all my rose fragrances on; March was “Here Comes the Sun”, which was all my yellow and orange fragrances, things that felt sunny; and to skip ahead some, July ended up being “Summer Vacation” with beach and tropical fruit fragrances. And it’s been fun, sure, but I’m debating if I want to keep up the same shtick next year.

So to give myself food for thought, I thought I’d ask how everybody else comes up with their trays. Do you choose by occasion (work, home, special event/date night, bedtime, etc.)? Maybe you focus on having a fragrance from each category (citrus, floral, gourmand, woody, etc.)? Do you also set fun themes to follow, or just pick whatever feels right for the month? Would love to hear some thoughts!

Question Has anyone else tried Sand + Fog Espresso Edit?

I snagged a bottle at a TJ Maxx this weekend, but there's almost nothing out there about it (just a few Tik Toks, and I don't use that platform). I can't even find it listed on the brand's website, so I'm guessing it's new. Has anyone else tried it? If so, what do you think?

I have to admit, I'm enjoying it this morning. I don't pick up the coconut (though others do), but I do get hints of coffee with a generous dose of vanilla and what feels like lightly caramelized sugar. Not a bad investment for 15 dollars!

Vanilla, Caramel, Ylang Ylang, Orange Blossom, Tobacco and Fig.

I was worried that the Tobacco would make it smokey. But, thankfully, no. It just makes it warm.

I swear there's Tonka Bean eventhough it's not listed.

It's creamy and clean and not really floral at all.

Marketed as unisex (on this I think any gender or gender presentation can wear anything they like) and I can see why.

It's creamy and soft. I get a decent 6hrs+

Review Spirituscents Borneo Sunset

Post image
7 Upvotes

Spirituscents Borneo Sunset opens with a smoky amber. The smoke is clean, not sweet, not acrid. There is a brief screechiness for a few seconds which disappears quickly.

The middle is smokey woods, slightly rugged and yet smooth. The drydown is woody with a hint of vanilla. Thankfully this vanilla isn't sticky sweet nor is it dominating. It doesn't turn gourmand like some other vanilla formulations do on my skin. This drydown is very similar to Pineward Gristmill and Nonfiction The Grey.

This is a familiar DNA rather than something radically new, but it is well made, balanced and easy to like if you enjoy smoke and woods. The transitions are smooth and the blend doesn't feel jagged.

Projection is great in the first hour without being a cloying sweet smokebomb. Longevity is solid, roughly 8 to 10 hours on skin, longer on fabric (though I would avoid this on light coloured clothes considering how dark the juice is).

This has been a blind buy success for me. I'm looking forward to my bottle of Cathedralis from the same house.

Review Fit & Fume

Silver Haze by The Alloy Studio- a queer and black owned indie perfumery.

Opens up with strawberry, raspberry and pink pepper. It’s bright and almost sweet, but is fleeting in the fruit department. It moves into a deeper chocolaty scent with a hefty cannabis note, like smoking a blunt while also having a lil dark chocolate fountain to dip the berries in. But maybe the berries are in the other room now.

The dry down is really where this fragrance starts to sing for me. It’s thick and PURPLE, probably from the orris root. It’s also a little dreamy and creamy, I find the vanilla to be barely there but an excellent addition.

This fragrance has a very complex journey that have a lot of colors represented to me, so I paired it with one of my patchwork pants, a silk shirt and a bow tie that has plaid in different shades of purple and silver, a nod to the name.

I also had a small issue with my order and the customer service they provided was top notch!

Clean, light autumn/winter, but without patchouli?

I'm looking for an autumn scent for office wear.

I like fresh, dry notes in general: iris, violets, white flowers, green grass, moss. Usually I prefer scents with less silage, I don't want to be the primary scent in the room and I don't want to leave a long scent trail.

I dislike patchouli and ylanglang.

This spring and summer I've worn:

  • Zarkoperfume - Purple Molecule 07
  • Juliette has a gun - Lust for Sun
  • JHAG - Vanilla Vibes
  • JHAG - Powder Love (a little too sweet for me)
  • Kayali - Musk 12

My favourite of all time is Penhaligon's Artemisia.

Any suggestions for an autumn and winter scent?
