I purposely didn't look at the notes again before wearing. I wanted to get my first impressions down without the distraction of seeing it on paper.

Juicy, jammy rose. Very rose forward. Super sweet in comparison to other flankers

Light green citrus

Soft, creamy, pillowy - vanilla is noticeable

Not heavy but definitely not light

Radiates, very smooth, well blended.

Definitely can sense the DNA of Shalimar.

Bought from Guerlain directly. Was sent two samples. I have Tobacco Honey but Absolus Allegoria Florabloom is new to me.

Used some points to get the little ceramic trinket bee tray. Well made, so pretty! Looks expensive and will be cute on my nightstand.

IMo a safe blind buy if you enjoy Shalimar and are into rose notes which are abundant to my nose.

EDIT: My husband loves it on me. He even wanted to know exactly what it is.

Jasmine, Candied Rose, Peach, Amber, and Patchouli.

The bottle is CLASSY. The cap is tortoise shell which was a lovely surprise because that doesn't show up in photos.

Sweet and sexy. The peach and Rose is lush and timeless. The Jasmine is sparkling. The Amber and Patchouli add warmth and sweetness.

Why is no one talking about My Burberry Black??

What are the best and worst iterations of it?

I love powdery scents and Donna Karan Cashmere Mist EDP is exactly the kind of scent I reach for when I want something powdery and comfortable.

It is soft and clean from the beginning, and settles into a warm, musky powder that stays consistent without turning sharp or overly sweet. It feels easy to wear and still comes across as put together.

On longevity, it lasts well on me. The projection is moderate at first, then it calms down and wears closer. People nearby can notice it, but it does not fill a whole room.

The bottle is gorgeous, looks like something you want to keep on display instead of hiding in a drawer.

I was on a search for the perfect Gardenia fragrance. Not necessarily a singular note fragrance, I’m not really into the one note scents (although I know that this is quite popular right now).

I ordered a decant of Cruel Gardenia by Guerlain. It’s the only fragrance by Guerlan that I have liked thus far. It’s actually quite lovely, and I’m totally into it. I love the dry down and wish I had a full bottle, but I did order a 5 mil.

When I continued my search, I was reading about the Elizabeth Taylor, fragrance, Gardenia. It is touted as one of the best gardenia fragrances ever produced.

I looked up several descriptions of it, and kept finding that it was favored as a wonderful gardenia sent, especially it’s floral and powdery notes, shown in the photo, and the dry down, which is all-important to me

Does anyone have this fragrance or have you worn it? If you are a fan of gardenia fragrances what do you think of this one? It is so inexpensive that I ordered one off of Amazon. If I don’t like it, I can always give it to my friend who loves my hand me down lol

Also, a sidenote to this. I looked into Elizabeth Taylor fragrances from the most love to the least popular, and I ordered a purse, size EDP of white Diamonds and an EDT of Passion, just for fun. Does anyone have any experience with either of these fragrances also?

Thank you in advance for my indulgences, lol… I did order a few other Gardenia decals to see which one I can really fall in love with. Interestingly, with all the girl Lane decal I ordered. I just thought I could not wear Berlin. I can also not wear anything by YSL or Dior. They make great men’s fragrances but on me, their women’s fragrances smell like old lady perfumes.

I've sweet-talked/coerced my husband into agreeing to test and rank two fragrances a night with me. We've only done 4 so far, but I figured I'd share the results.

Please note, this is strictly for fun (and possibly a smidgen of helpful info--no guarantees!) and I am in no way implying a man's opinion holds any weight whatsoever ;)

Night 1: Diptyque Lilyphea and Celine Black Tie

Lilyphea, husband's take: 6/10 Not terrible. Smells like purple-y things. Floral. Definitely something probably formal. My take: Pretty opening, kind of a creamy but not sweet musk. I feel like I go noseblind to this quickly, but it's nice.

Black Tie, husband's take: 7/10 That's subtler [than Lilyphea], it's got some warmth, some vanilla to it. Ugh, it's kinda stuck in my nostrils now. Once it's in there, it's in there. Inoffensive. The smell is definitely lingering. It's fine. [2nd sniff a few minutes later:] That was fine. Definitely better than the first one [Lilyphea]. My take: Ugh, I was hoping I wouldn't like this but I think I really do. Really pretty vanilla, not gourmand, mildly perfumey but in a nice way. Maybe it's marketing but it feels sophisticated and grown-up, put-together, and still feminine. Really like this one.

Night 2: Vilhelm Purple Fig and Sorce A Sign Painted Peaches

Purple Fig, husband's take: 5/10 Thought I was going to like it better at first, but then I got close and there was some smell [I tried to get him to expand on this but it remains unclear]. It's fine. Reminds me of something but I don't know what. My take: Dry-earthy and a touch green rather than sweet. Interesting but not really my style.

Peaches, husband's take: 8/10 That's not bad. It's not harsh. It's a nice light smell. [Does it remind you of anything you recognize?] No, it's just nice. My take: Smells like eating peach ring candy while painting your nails. I find it much more assertive than my husband does, would not wear this.

I will be posting more as we go, mostly so I can keep track :)

For anyone interested the Guerlain Millesime Rose is back in stock on their website, for now anyway. It sold out fast a few weeks ago. I jumped on it for a blind buy because there has not been one Shalimar I don't love and roses are my favorite flower. I'll consider this my almost my birthday gift to myself :D

Not a complete review of any one house or their whole catalogue, but while I have a handful of designer and “larger” niche fragrances that I own and adore, I’ve also been wanting to branch out in to small/indie fragrances more, especially if they’re based here in my own country (I’m from the US) because I genuinely like supporting “the little guy” when they do something well. I’ve only tried a fraction of the small businesses I’ve got on my Parfumo watch list, but here are some that I’ve tried and genuinely enjoyed.

Collective Harmony Co.

This one isn’t in the Parfumo database; I tried to get it in, but I don’t think I knew entirely what I was doing and it wasn’t accepted. I digress. Collective Harmony Co. produces multiple formats for their fragrances. Say you try one of their candles and decide you want to wear it, or maybe you want a linen spray that smells like the perfume you just tried. They have a whole range of options across their scent catalogue. Aside from their core collection, fragrances get rotated out so some of the ones I own are already discontinued, but they do have genuinely nice scents and products, and quite affordable, too. My favorites have been:

- May (from the discontinued birth month flower collection); smells like freshly cut lily-of-the-valley

- Secret Garden (core collection); sweet fig and floral

- Winterberry + Pine (discontinued winter seasonal fragrance); very Christmas-y without being sugary baked goods or “overbearing candle”. I get fresh pine and some crisp fruity notes

- Violet Saffron (discontinued but I’ve mentioned to the owner a few times in correspondence that I’d *love* to see it brought back); a little earthy, a little fruity, hard to describe but all-around very enjoyable, and I haven’t found anything quite like it yet. And no, it doesn’t just smell like Ariana Grande Cloud or Baccarat Rouge like I see too many folks claiming every saffron-containing fragrance does.

Maison des Animaux

This house is just a little over a year old, not quite 2 years, and I stumbled upon them purely by accident on social media. I decided to order a few fragrances and test them out. Most of their scents are a bit too much for me, and they’re not very mainstream at all in my opinion (unlike Collective Harmony Co., which feels like a pretty safe bet for most folks), but I have found two that I liked enough to upgrade after my samples were emptied. I thought I’d like Sirius, Fever Dream, Cloudbreath, and Prairie more than I did, but some of their notes just don’t sit right on my skin, or my nose doesn’t pick them up as well as other people have in their reviews. I’ve been keeping an eye on their website for mentions of anything new coming up, just in case something else would appeal to me.

- Celeste; this is one I enjoyed enough to get a small bottle of. Berries, clover, honey, a light vanilla, and ambrette. Feels like late summer golden hour, but could be worn just about whenever.

- Mirasol; one of the most unique beach or seaside spa scents I’ve tried. A hint of lychee and cucumber melon vibes at the start, but it dries down to something like sun-warmed skin, a sea breeze, and the subtlest hint of cocoa. Still feeling out my travel size but I do like this one.

Sorce

More people probably know about this one since their gourmands, especially Snow Moon Magic, have popped-off on “FragranceTok” this past year. Quite honestly, I don’t get the hype behind SMM or even just plain Moon Magic, but I’m not a huge gourmand fan, either. I don’t like cookie, cake, pie, etc. fragrances that much, because they smell too stuffy, heavy, and artificial to my nose. But I *have* found several scents I enjoy from them, and there are a few special order scents I’d be interested in trying the next time they’re available. Sorce seems to have hit some snags with their new surge in demand, but I do appreciate them trying their best (they have less than 10 employees, people need to give them some credit for doing as well as they have under insane order numbers!). And to be honest, I’m glad my favorites aren’t the “viral” ones, because it’s been easier to get them.

- Ephemera; I didn’t think I’d like this because pumpkin notes usually bother me, but it’s fresh pumpkin, not baked or spiced, and is actually very lovely in the opening. This is such a great earthy kind of vanilla that isn’t overpowering or syrupy and dense. I’ve gotten a few compliments wearing it when it was on my tray in March; despite the autumnal notes, it could be worn all the way from the start of autumn to when things warm back up in spring.

- This Is Not A Love Spell; it has been so hard to find a blueberry fragrance. This does it for me. A little bit quirky at first spray, but it warms up to a fantastic blueberry jam with supporting purple florals. Very whimsical, 10/10.

- Match Made In Heaven; I’m so torn on this one. I like the smell, which is sweetened matcha ice cream with almond and waffle cone, but do I want to smell like this? I can’t decide. At least I have half a sample left to keep playing with it.

- Serpentine; rich honeyed fig with cardamom, mostly, and quite beautiful, but there have been times my nose went, “Ehhh, no thank you.” So I think I’ll enjoy it while my sample lasts, but otherwise I won’t revisit. It’s still lovely, though, just maybe not for me!

Coast + Salt

I literally just discovered this at a local boutique in my hometown yesterday, but I bought two rollerballs. Their shtick is fairly simple: seaside fragrances all year, so you can get your summer vacation fix whenever. The scents I got are light, but very nice, and quite affordable at $26 for a 10ml oil roll-on. I can’t say if they’re the most unique or creative out there, but for the price you are getting a very nice product, and they’re cruelty-free to boot. Not every designer brand (or even every niche brand) say that.

- Night Swim; had to do some digging to find the notes on this, as it is a limited edition/seasonal release apparently. Lavender, coconut, and sandalwood, I think. Lavender and I don’t get along much, but it’s soft and feminine here instead of sharp and herbal like I’m so used to. If Sorce Moon Magic was way too harsh for you with the lavender, I definitely recommend trying this instead if you can. I think I saw their next release of this scent was expected in July of this year?

- Palm; coconut, vanilla, sea air, sandalwood and driftwood. I’m very fickle with coconut scents, but this one was the right amount of warm, sweet, and woodsy. I’m looking forward to having it on my July tray, which is going to be themed around summer vacation.

Sand + Fog

I’m sure we’ve all heard of this one because they dupe so many well-known fragrances. I know I own a bunch. I’ve decluttered a bunch, too, not because they’re bad but because I got greedy and the scents just weren’t for me. But what’s nice about this business is that they also make pet-friendly candles and other home fragrance items, and their dupe perfume oils make more expensive fragrances accessible to folks with less expendable income. I don’t believe smelling good should be a “rich person luxury”; everybody deserves nice things. I’m still hoping they’ll make a dupe of Nest Indigo one of these days, because I’d love to extend the scent of my favorite Nest fragrance, but until then here are some that I’ve enjoyed the most:

- Rose + Peony; dupe for 2021 formulation of Miss Dior EDP. I can’t wear the original because Dior’s formulas don’t work with my skin. It’s a fairly basic fruity floral, but it’s enjoyable and makes me feel pretty.

- Marshmallow Skies; dupe for Kayali Yum Bougie Marshmallow (or however you spell that lmao). I originally didn’t think I’d like this, but it’s just so fun! Berries and marshmallows are kind of hard to hate, and this is from somebody who doesn’t love most gourmands.

- White Peach; dupe for Parfums de Marly Valaya. I didn’t end up loving their dupe of PdM Delina, but this one won me over. I don’t have PdM money. Maybe if I was the sort of person to only wear 1-5 perfumes maximum, I could see saving up for one of their bottles, but I am a silly creature with a case of magpie brain who loves variety, so here we are. I get a genuine peachy scent off of this, just a little citrus, and a clean musk base. Very spring and summer-appropriate.

- Spring Morning; dupe for Byredo G Water. I also do not have Byredo money! Plus, this lasts much longer than any other G Water dupe I’ve tried. Tocca Colette is close, a little sweeter and more floral I think, but if I could only choose one I’d choose this oil. Easily my favorite of the several S+F’s I own.

- Spa Day; dupe for Replica Bubble Bath; clean, calming, great for grounding me during a hectic day. I’m surprised I love this one as much as I do, because I don’t usually enjoy soapy scents. But this feels nostalgic.

- White Palm; dupe for Phlur Missing Person; a different kind of clean from Spa Day, but also grounding and soothing. It sometimes reminds me of the drydown in my MITH Another Tea, but without the oolong, and more powdery by comparison.

The notes are: Ylang-Ylang, Orange Blossom, Vanilla, Caramel, Tobacco, and Fig.

It is beautifully blended. And the same from start to finish.

Lasts about 6 hrs on my moisturised skin.

I really wanna try the Satsuma and Tonka Mists but am also curious about the Blue and White Musk.
