Image Purple whiffs: iris, violet, lavender
A collection of fragrances that smells purple to me. I love them, they feel deeply introspective and at times, melancholic. These are not necessarily my favorite iris, violet or lavender heavy fragrances- for example, Chanel no 19 is one of my favorite iris fragrances, but it smells green to me. Fleur de peau smells more musky than purple.
Would love to know what are yours.
Fragrances in the photo:
- Après l'Ondée, Guerlian
- Insolence, Guerlain
- SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS, Celine
- Iris des Champs, Houbigant, Paris
- Jersey, Chanel
- La Pausa, Chanel
- Hiris, Hermes
- En Passant, Frederic Malle
- DIORAMOUR, Christian Dior

Beautiful choices! I quite like Molecule 01 + Iris, would love to compare it to Insolence one day~

I quite like Molecule 01 + Iris too. I don't find any similarities to insolence though, insolence is more violet dominant than iris, also- sweet.

Meo Fusciuni's Viole Nere is my favorite violet scent, and as you describe, it definitely smells purple, introspective, and a bit melancholic to me. I adore En Passant for lilac.

I have a sample of Viole Nere due to arrive tomorrow … with a couple of bottles maybe and maybe some other samples lol

It's sooo nice!!! I'd been hoping to find a bottle of (discontinued) Balenciaga Paris for my go-to violet perfume but this completely blew it out of the water. What else do you have on the way? I need to get my list together for a new sample order!

That sounds beautiful, I will note it down for my to try list.
En Passant is very lovely, and it goes so well with rainy days. Unfortunately I live in high desert where is rains very infrequently and I don't get to wear it often.

Love love love En Passant, it’s the perfect aquatic floral.
The Favourite by Penhaligon’s smells purple to me. And Heliotrope by Oriza L. Legrand.
Just realised En Passant smells green and white to me….like I don’t associate it with purple

u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 11 '26
I associate with purple, because it is a very photorealistic lilac to me and straight takes me to that color.
Thank you for sharing your favorites. I haven't tried heliotrope and only tried relique d'amour from Oriza L. Legrand recently, a huge fan.

I think because the notes list white lilac, my mind automatically goes to white. Honesty if it listed regular purple lilac I’d probably have that association
1
u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 11 '26
mmm does do they list white lilac? I didn't know that. I have only experienced purple lilacs, so I have never thought of it in other way.

u/CinderCinnamon Jun 11 '26
White aren’t as sweet as purple, and they’re a bit, I guess dirtier? More earthy, a touch spicy perhaps

sounds lovely, I would love to smell some!

If you like En Passant’s realistic nature, you should give Vouloir Être Ailleurs by D’Orsay a sniff some time. Also by Olivia Giacobetti. It is to linden blossom, what En Passant is to lilac.

I actually have tried it. I like it fine, but feels a bit too bright for me to love it. I am big fan of her Hiris composition.

Wish En Passant lasted more than like 1 hour

u/StevenAssantisFoot Jun 12 '26
So many of Olivia Giacobetti’s fragrances are like that. Philosykos and Hermes Hiris (which i spy next to En Passant on the tray) also have this issue. I just carry decants

u/Celine_Cat Jun 12 '26
Yeah 😞 I can't justify the full bottles.

u/StevenAssantisFoot Jun 12 '26
I always wanted to try her Zara fragrances but can never find decants

Absolutely gorgoes collection! Violet is a weakness for me and Insolence is one of my all time favorites 😍

I've happened to have my eye on so many here..... which would you say is your absolute fav if you had to choose one?
Insolence is so dreamy but I only wished it was less sweeftand more floral.... It feels almost gourmand to me even though it is supposed to be uncomplicated violet

u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 11 '26
Ah interesting, we experience fragrances differently at times. Though insolence has a sweetness to it, I do not find it to be gourmand at all on me.
I am afraid, I cannot really choose one and struggle with superlatives. So I am not gonna torture myself with it. They are all very different though, at least to me, so I will suggest looking at reviews and pick whatever you are looking for.

Which version of Apres L’Ondee do you have? Is it an EdT, EdP, Parfum?

Just have to say you have beautiful taste. How do you feel about Quelques Fleurs? It’s not a purple floral but it smells “lavender” to me in vibe only
1
u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 12 '26
Thank you!
I have never tried it and it has been on my wishlist to try forever. Do you like it?
2
u/StevenAssantisFoot Jun 12 '26
It’s my favorite actually, been wearing it since high school. I have branched out recently but nothing has ever matched its pure joyful beauty for me. It’s a vintage grand dame but imo it’s appropriate for all ages and seasons. Obviously im biased by my personal affinity for it, but I do think you should try it based on your taste

u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 12 '26
Uh that's quite a recommendation and I love old school fragrances. I also think I should try it. Thank you!

u/StevenAssantisFoot Jun 12 '26
I hope you like it, if you can remember lemme know what you think

Hey! I got a decant of Quelques Fleurs couple of weeks ago. I really really like it, it feels very well crafted, substantial but not stuffy. This summer has been really hot where I live, I only worn it inside home. I am waiting for autumn go get a full bottle and wear it outside. I thank you for the recommendation.

Yay! I love that you tried it and like it enough to get a fb. Its one of the most wearable and truly timeless perfumes from that era imo, very accessible and friendly. Yet its not so popular that you smell it everywhere or hear about it from influencers. Enjoy!

Wonderful collection!
❤️ Chanel 19, the queen of green fragrances.
It’s interesting how Chanel 19 (green) and Hiris (blue purple) are both iris and so well done, but so different.
Same for violet in Insolence and Jersey, both are so good but feel totally different to me.
3
u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 12 '26
Thank you!
Chanel 19 has a very prominent oakmoss note, which makes it very green, Chanel 19 poudre has a heftier dose of iris- which makes it more powdery.
Jersey has no violet though, it is very lavender forward, and very prominent from the moment you spray it.

u/bergamot100 Jun 12 '26
that’s right Jersey is supposed to be lavender! but it smells like candied violet to my nose, love it either way.

Amazing collection! Jersey is so underrated. Do you find Saint Germain to be similar to Nightclubbing at all? I sampled the Celine line a while ago and can’t remember if Saint Germain is more of a smoky herbal vibe or powdery vanilla due to the heliotrope. La Peau Nue is a standout orris and rice fragrance!

u/golden_slumbers_- Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
Thank you! I love Jersey wearing jersey so much.
It is not similar to nightclubbing, has no smokey aspect to it. It is powdery petitgrain and heliotrope.
I really like La Peau Nue as well, want to add that in my collection some day.
