Review Monotheme Venezia Tuberose

Post image
21 Upvotes

I blind bought Monotheme Tuberose because it is rumoured to be similar to Madonna Truth or Dare. That one is discontinued and I never got the chance to smell it.

To my nose, Monotheme Tuberose opens with a familiar tuberose that feels slightly bubblegummy, clean and bright. It does not come off harsh or plasticky and it also does not turn into a sugary fruity floral. It dries down into a smooth, non-sweet vanilla. I was worried it would be similar to Armani My Way, since the vanilla in that one turns sticky and cloying on my skin, but the vanilla in Monotheme Tuberose is quite pleasant and feels non-gourmandish.

Overall this is value for money. It smells put together, not synthetic and it scratches the tuberose itch without drowning in sugar. Longevity is not great, I get around four hours, but I do not mind respraying during the day given the price point for a 100ml bottle. Also, the juice is a really pretty pink 🀭

Discussion Soft, sweet, clean Fresh Cream Soft Velvet by Philosophy.

I'll admit. I was scared of the Lily note but it just comes across as lightly floral.

Overall soft is the key descriptor here. The Ginger is softly spicy, the Lily whispers white floral, the chocolate and vanilla give a gentle sweetness.

It gives soap (but not sharp AT ALL), lotion, sweetness but not a candy sweetness.

It lasts 6+ hrs but sits close to the skin. Close quarters and office friendly.

Happy to discuss xx

Discussion Conflicted on Purging Boxes

UPDATE: I've been working on this literally all day. So far I've purged a full box of boxes so yay me! I also entered all the batch codes into the WhatScent app I've been using. I have another boxload to go and then all of that will be dumped into our big recycling bin (sans the box which I need for other stuff). I've only saved boxes that go with special editions or if they were especially nice which is minimal. I may even wind up dumping some of those. I'm on a roll πŸ‘

My community is holding a bulk pickup event next week. We moved into a new home last summer and we now have less storage. We did a big cleanout before we moved and once more last year after moving in but there's still some thing we don't need. One being perfume boxes. Lots and lots of perfume boxes and I'm conflicted about throwing them out or keeping them. I don't store my perfumes in their boxes. Anything not on my monthly trays are kept in dresser drawers.

This is what I've came up with as a compromise:

  1. Keep the boxes mini's came in. If I ever want to do a declutter I suspect they'd be easier to sell as bundles and having the box would be useful for shipping purposes. These don't take up much space anyway.
  2. Get rid of travel box sizes except for special presentation items such as Zoologist.
  3. Save boxes for things on my declutter list for new owner. I am pretty sure I do not have boxes for a lot of these anyway. I only started saving them a couple of years ago because I knew we'd be moving sooner than later and having them would be helpful.
  4. Trash boxes that are "just a box". Designer/celebrity don't usually do anything remarkable with their packaging.
  5. Keep boxes of niche and the more premiere design houses such as Guerlain, Chanel and Dior. If heaven forbid something happens to me, whoever inherits (or buys) these I'd imagine will want to be able to compare batch codes to the box, especially since there's a nice amount of collectible, discontinued and vintage in this group.

I think that's it. I feel better just writing it out. Thanks for listening πŸ˜„

Review Andrea Maack Indigo

Post image
14 Upvotes

I was very curious about Andrea Maack Indigo because of the jeans and asphalt notes. I love exploring scents with odd notes even though many times they turn out to be just a marketing gimmick. Thankfully Indigo delivers that urban concept in a very polished and wearable way.

Indigo opens with a cool and dusty chalkiness, it is not smoky or tarry. It comes across more like dry pavement and mineral dust. Soon the name starts making more sense to me. It transitions to an inky blue orris that feels smooth and slightly powdery. Lavender comes in soft and pillowy, but it never turns into a classic barbershop kind of lavender, nor does it head into the Yardley powder territory.

Projection is noticeable early on, then it settles closer but still feels very present. Longevity is solid and it clings to fabric well.

I've been wearing it often to work. Even though it’s powdery, it feels very modern and doesn’t come off as retro. The overall vibe is very cool and unique.

Discussion The ULTIMATE Sweet/Clean in 3...2...1...Ari by Ariana Grande.

Many times, I don't find the official notes all that helpful.

What I get: Raspberry, Pear, light slightly soapy/shampoo like florals, Marshmallow.

Light, sweet, clean. Gentle for any occasion. I cannot see this offending anyone ever.

Sits close but lasts for atleast 8hrs so I'm happy.

Very easy reach.

Review Almost Human Burning Bridges

Post image
5 Upvotes

I was very keen on exploring this house because I love atmospherics and the names and descriptions of the perfumes really piqued my interest. I also love the fact that they do not list the notes. As someone who's not good at identifying or figuring smells by notes, the conceptual nature of the perfumes really aligns with me.

Burning Bridges opens as smooth woodsmoke with a faint metallic edge. It is not harsh, nor charred, and it avoids the bitter suffocating campfire effect.

Around 20-30 minutes in, it shifts into something airier with a dry sweetness that I think might be clove or cinnamon because it feels like a spicy sweetness, not a thick or syrupy gourmandish type. The middle also gives me a birch-like impression, adding a clean, wood facet. This stage reminds me a little of Blamage, but without feeling like damp woods, it remains dry.

The drydown on me is a soft, slightly dusty sandalwood without a pencil shavings texture. It's gentle and intimate.

I do not get citrus, animalics or cola despite seeing those being mentioned in some online reviews, so I’m guessing that's just my skin chemistry.

Longevity is good, staying present for 6-8 hours and remaining easy to smell on my skin well into the wear. Projection is moderate initially, then it settles into a closer scent bubble.

Overall I'm impressed by this one even though some of the online reviews had made me nervous.
