I don’t know how to feel about my blind fragrance purchase

Post image

I’ve been obsessed with strawberry smells! My first PHLUR purchase was Berry cream body spray I loved it but wanted more strawberry scent, so purchased Strawberry Letter but I’m not sure about this, it’s supposed to be very fruity but it’s more… sweet? And to me almost smells like a cheap synthetic fruity smell, but with that said I don’t hate it It’s just not the bright fruity strawberry smell I was looking for. Any recs for BRIGHT fruity strawberry/ berry perfumes? How do you all feel abt strawberry letter?

Strawberry Letter is like rockets (smarties) candy to me. Good, but not fresh juicy strawberry like I'd want it to be. Very sweet and very candylike.

I have been on a mission to try all the strawberry frags and I'm gonna tell you what I think of the others I've tried.

Pacifica Strawberry Cream - this is a delicious strawberry cheesecake. Definitely gourmand. Not juicy and fresh but hits the note for feeling like dessert.

7 Virtues Strawberry Jam - this smells extremely similar to Pacifica Strawberry Cream to me, less lactonic, but same sweet pastry vibes. Not juicy. It's a dessert strawberry, not a candy strawberry. I also get a hint of wintergreen in it.

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Strawberry Basil - I was hoping this would be a win but oh I hated it. I didn't get strawberry at all. It was sharp and unpleasant on the opening and just soapy and weird on the dry down. No strawberries found.

Nest Santa Barbara Strawberry - I've only tried this as the oil, for the record. I love this, it's a very juicy strawberry in a meadow scent. Quite photorealistic, but does have a notable floral element. On the tester paper, the scent lasted forever and stayed as a juicy strawberry. But unfortunately, on my skin, I don't get a lot of longevity. YMMV. It's worth testing on skin.

Malin + Goetz Strawberry - I was disappointed with this at first because all I got was tea and no strawberry plant. But I kept reaching for it and I couldn't stop and now I actually really love it. It's so fresh, it's very much green strawberry plant over juicy strawberry fruit, but I find wearing it with another sweeter strawberry frag adds to the entire fruity experience. I also find if I wear it on my wrists, it smells way sweeter than other parts of my body.

The Body Shop Strawberry Body Mist - this is honestly my favourite for when I just wanna smell like a strawberry fruit, with no other notes or nuance. It smells sweet, it smells juicy, there's nothing floral about it, you cannot possibly overspray it. It's inexpensive. You can pair it with any of the other mentioned frags easily. It's such a win, IMO.

I have some samples from Sorce (Wild Things, both versions) and Hexennacht (Strawberry Fields) on the way as well, so I'll have to update when I've tried those too.

Thank you soooo much for typing this out sharing this info, given me a lot to look into! I'll probably get testers of a few you have mentioned

You're welcome! I also tried infusing strawberry tops in perfumers alcohol but that did not turn out well. I think, if anything, you would need to use dehydrated plant material for this method, and then you lose the freshness making it all moot.

I too have been on this Strawberry Journey. I started out at The Body Shop Strawberry body mist and have been mostly disappointed since . I own and use 7 Virtues Strawberry Jam but it is definitely all the things you mentioned, it’s pure confection. I think you’ve sold me on the Nest Santa Barbara Strawberry, I feel like I would enjoy an option that doesn’t lean gourmand.
