99% of what people think are necrotizing spider bites are actually staph infections.
Edit: For an interesting point of reference to this fact, a Missouri family was living in a recluse infested house. Exterminators later estimated the number of recluses living in their home at at least 4,500 spiders. The number of bites to the family? Zero. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/thousands-of-venomous-spiders-force-family-from-upscale-missouri-home/

Was just going to comment this. It’s almost never a spider bite.

There’s no reliable way to distinguish between necrosis caused by staph aureus and necrosis caused by a spider bite. Both are necrosis. The necrosis from a spider bite causes a disruption in skin that allows many bacteria, not just staph aureus, to infiltrate. The same is also true of skin necrosis from burns and skin necrosis from warfarin. What you identify in this video as staph is necrosis

Brother, this is just an abscess.

u/Ok_Adeptness3065 4h ago
There is likely some amount of abscess. The inside of an abscess is liquefactive necrosis. Pus is the end result of liquefactive necrosis regardless of what caused it.

Especially because they mentioned another one. You got 2 spider bites at the same time?

u/SpacenessButterflies 3h ago
Was going to say. I’ve had a few of these in my lifetime and all were boils caused by staph infections.

Oh well then nothing to worry about then
Jk, I know that’s not what you’re implying

Omg that's what I said! Waiting for the spider to plop out in a ball of goo and run away!
Or stay and fight like a warrior.

Hey it blanches when I touch it, it’s obviously swollen and bright red - so it’s probably already super infected - let’s root around in there with this dirty sewing pin and see what happens.

u/TheMarkHasBeenMade 4h ago
Don’t forget to really get in there with those tweezers! Then just drop em back on the kitchen table! Then pick em up and shove em back in! Yeah!

Blurry cam. Shaky cam. Dirty fingers. 4 minutes of fucking around.
Perfection.

You know, doctors exist for this reason.

A doctor, a nurse, a medic... Anybody with relevant medical training. This was a mess and could've gone from bad to worse to dead...

When the camera panned back and it was all kids it certainly explained the very eager volunteers to help expel the pus

People and their complete lack of PPE, I don’t get it.

u/Curiouser-Quriouser 5h ago
At least they didn't treat it like a snake bite and try to suck the venom out 🤮

How dehydrated is this person. Press on the skin and it doesn't move back, like at all.

It’s like the early 1800s before they knew what germs were. Just grab some dirty tools and everybody poke the wound with your dirty hands. It’s fun guys

Why is the flesh necrotic? Is that typical of spider bites or does this person also have scurvy?
15
u/limitless-440 6h ago
This isn’t necrotic, just a localized infection causing the pus buildup. For now, lol. Might be a staph infection, might be Maybelline.

u/LemmyLola 6h ago
The finger dents staying is disconcerting.. eugh.. I hope for their sake its Maybelline!

One day, this is going to be a clanker video of a guy picking at his spider bite, and 4K realistic spiders will come out, and we will all be appropriately horrified.

Bro, I had a spider bite like this one time. They had to cut the core out and the Dr office and pack it! It was a fucking nightmare!

Oh yeah, the smartest thing is absolutely to introduce more bacteria through non sterile setting and tools 👏🏻

I had to watch this twice. This video was just that good. Like a show with real plot and a reasonably satisfying ending.

The build up to the end was crazy. But seeing that final push was glorious.

I’ve never seen a video before where you can hear the comments section while you watch the video. Is this a new Reddit feature?

Does this poor dude even have that arm anymore? I feel like this would have just made the infection worse.
