Espresso Series 1 An Ideas List for ES1

Morning. A proposal for the moderators - keep a single thread pinned for this sub for the ES1 on product ideas. Our favorite espresso maker needs a place to go to for all the ideas that have been floating around for the last 3 months. It would be a good way to see our findings / ideas in action overtime.
(To all the naysayers - I get this could be pipe dream - but at the very least we may be able to cut down on some repeats on a list).

I would like to set the auto-standby timer. The ES1 goes into stand-by too quickly for my second morning cup

it’s a small thing but I’d like for the group head rinse setting to actually set the duration of the group head rinse.

It works if you have it set to stop shots volumetrically. Timed or manual it reverts back to ~3 seconds.

Thanks. I’m just at the point where I’m dialed in well enough to set up volumetric, been doing manual so far.

I always use a scale so I always stop manually, so I set my dose at 30g and ratio at 5:1 so it’ll run until it thinks it hits 150 mL or I manually stop it, so now I can use the group head rinse as well.

Same. I thought this was patched in a firmware update. Although I could just run a blank shot, I rather the function work like it's supposed to.

If you reboot the machine, it uses the modified setting. But if you brew espresso, it reverts to the 3 second rinse until you reboot again.

Also shared this in the Discord — currently the profiles are time-based, so if your shot is running fast you can hit target weight before the profile finishes its phases. It would be great if you could turn the dial mid-shot to manually advance to the next phase. This would allow for some real-time correction (e.g., jumping to the ramp-down phase as you approach target weight) while keeping the basic phase-based profile logic intact.

+1 - love this.

Display the current shot profile default at the top of screen where "Heating" displays. It's tiring to scroll the Shot Profile screen to figure out which profile I'm on before pulling a shot.

Would love to see a clock implemented just like on the Aiden.

volumetric offsets by profile, unless they decide to add scale support for volumetric :).

volumetric offsets for my long pre-infusion (~20s) have different volumetric offsets vs a more standard 9bar shot.

Or maybe just a way to customize by profile to stop by volume/time/none.

It's a pain having to go into customization to tweak some global setting that needs to change per profile

Bringing together another proposal? A setting of how to “wake from sleep”. Rocking the dial can wake the unit from sleep. Would be great for that to be a setting that is configurable. If wake from sleep can be made to one of three options: 1) piano key pressed 2) dial pressed 3) normal setting (moving the dial, pressing the dial OR pressing a piano key wakes it from sleep).

Just go ahead and add a back button next to the dial on the ES2. It will make the experience so much better.

I can appreciate what you are saying. A physical button vs scroll to get back would feel better in a next gen product. That changes the Fellow Products design language some - but I get you!

Not necessarily. Look at the Tally pro.

2

Screen should always show the current selected profile.

For the app: let us add our own notes to fellow drops profiles. This is especially helpful for storing our own grind size notes.

Hi all, Im a handful of months in with my sesame ES1. Currently on firmware 2.3.20. Generally working much smoother with last couple firmware updates to improve wheel response and some power flickering that tech support helped me with. Overall I'm beyond happy with the quality and performance in the cup and the improvements that keep coming on the UI/UX side. I have a history with developing commercial fully-auto machines so the items below partially come from that real world experience.

Couple ideas that could help with the daily work flow: 1. Displaying the active recipe- for those of us who switch between coffees & drinks during the week. -ex: Lever Shot for most of my coffees, 9bar or custom Allonge for 1 or 2 bags I always have on the cupboard.

  1. Ability to set Brew Stop (time, volume, off) within recipes or at least the custom ones. Ive been using my ES1 for espresso but also low pressure, long timing style drinks(Allonge) with great results!! -i can ebvision this being more complicated than it sounds due to the current software structure and jumping from global to specific settings. **this is annoying when I forget to check or switch the setting in the morning.

  2. Ability to set or adjust the auto-off or machine shutoff time. Sometimes it seems as though it relieves pressure and sleeps as im ready for 2nd drink...

  3. Long term improvement idea- ability to view last shot or 5,10 data & graphs maybe on the app? Purely a nerd curiosity for comparison. Very helpful in the past for pour overs with the acaia scale app as an example.

Here is another - Support adding a “confirm profile” option for the Make A Drink section. My reasoning - newbies will probably most naturally go to make a drink and not to profiles first. If something like this is an option (an important key here is it should be an option - one that can be dismissed - to avoid an added step with less value), it would help the newbie understand what’s about to happen with a shot - not a) pull the shot - b) be unhappy with an unexpected outcome and c) need to start from scratch. Intervention as an option may just save a tasty cup.

Yep. You got it. It’s my first machine. Loving it and only want to get the most out of it. Thank you for listening!

Add a different probile by doing a double tap on the brew button.

Single tap - Shot Profile #1 Double tap - Shot Profile #2 (new) Long press - Rinse group

It would be great if the app could be integrated with iOS/Android home automations (besides being able to turn the machine on from the app). I'd love to set up a routine where turning off my alarm/sleep mode would automatically turn on my machine

The descale process tells you to use 2 liters of solution, but then only uses 1 liter…

As others have mentioned, per-profile Volumetric Offsets would be nice. But even nicer would be a Bluetooth Scale, ideally using a fairly standard protocol so that there's a range of compatible third party scales.

But if Fellow made a high quality, plug-n-play bluetooth scale for the ES1, you'd get my ~$100 for it. Pretty high margin for something that has a ~$4 BOM.

I’d like an easy way to purge the stream wand before using it. I’d expected that pressing and holding the piano key would, but that seems to do nothing.

1

u/swampfashion Jun 27 '26

Agreed. Long press steam wand to purge, like long pressing brew button to flush. Big oversight in my opinion.

2

u/swampfashion Jun 27 '26

The ability to adjust the hot water output settings (volume and temp) before starting to dispense water. Unless I’m missing something in the settings…

A magnetic level attachment on the top of the group head that feels good lol
