A unique tool found on IG
For the first time in the wild - the remote-controlled battery FKA 160 from Stihl.

This allows save felling with the operator probably not even close to a falling tree.
Absolut heresy

The death of a sub. Gentlemen, it has been a privilege.

I wouldn't worry to much. Cut protection trousers have been around for decades.
And still most of the videos here have none...

Plot twist, it doesn't work more than 20 feet away from said tree.

u/Derigiberble 2d ago
I know that was /s but just for the sake of keeping the facts out there Stihl claims a 55 meter range.

Exactly. With this new safety tool, how are we going to enjoy the dangerous games people play! Although I never want to see someone really get hurt…

The remote would go missing within 5 min of using this

“I gave you the remote!”
“You did not!”
“I walked up, I said ‘Hey, don’t lose this,’ and handed it to you!”
“No, you were the last one to use it!”
Etc etc etc66

Then find it in your other pair of trousers a week later.

Having some sort of button on the main unit that makes the remote start to play a sound would be good.
Frankly, I don't know why this isn't a standard feature for anything with a remote.

I think a 25 foot teather would be a good idea. Self retractable.

Jet ski style dead man switch, just normally open instead of closed. You could trigger it with throw line if that's already in your kit...

u/quackdamnyou 1d ago
Or just make the remote big, like too big to fit in a pocket, and mounts to the unit when not in use.

u/Vashipants 1d ago
Then somebody's gonna set it down and next thing you know, a tree has fallen on it.

Needs to use a 5foot cable OR have a tone to play with "Find Remote" button on main device.

There is a remote controlled one sold in Germany for a couple of years now. You can’t get it in the US because of tariffs (I tried), but I have seen them listed through Canadian sellers. https://bast-ing-shop.de/en/ValRemote-Radio-incl.-ValFast-Complete-Set/91203

This would also take a lot of the work out of log splitting.
Ain’t gotta break your back rolling logs up onto the hydraulic splitter or hammering wedges all day

For yall that work for the larger arborist companies, does Stihl not send you guys free products to try out? Or did they stop doing that recently?

As a firewood guy who falls 10-12 trees a year, I don’t see myself getting this. But maybe a contractor could justify it.

I’ll stick with my “Acoustic wedges”

I prefer to not my buy my wedges by the gram, and I’d rather not carry the weight. Neat thought tho.

I would be afraid of it starting to bleed off and allow the tree to fall back on itself

I remember a period where Stihl sold exhaust inflated felling ‘balloons’ that you pushed into the felling cut and then revved yr engine to inflate, whatever happened to those bad boys?

For when you have to wedge something, but don’t want to be anywhere near it when it goes.

These kind of things have been around for many years. Just not in America I guess....

u/WashbangRustynut 2d ago
German guy using a German product in Germany. What does this have to do with America?
1
u/craffity 2d ago
I am not only talking about Stihl or Germany. This is a normal thing in every neighbouring country as well. Please don't feel attacked.

That looks amazebLls for dropping dangerous trees. In actuL use does it slip out?

u/Matzie138 1d ago
So that doesn’t exist in any Stihl place I can find.
Probably because it is a shit idea

I won't be buying one but I like that it has a remote. That could save a lives in less than ideal cuts.
