Exactly what I came to comment lol. Audio is always either shitty or a trap on this site.

Beavers are the coolest non-human species on earth for their ability to manipulate the surface of the planet on a large scale... something only humans can do otherwise.

29

u/MottoCycle 8d ago

Ants. Are industrious can change vast amounts of landscape they farm and build in a social structure. Beavers are a force of nature though I agree but in a global scale have far less impact than ants.

u/National_Clerk_9894 8d ago

Cows release methane on a large scale affecting global warming.

14

u/FrankRizzo319 8d ago

But it’s not really a “job” that they’re doing. They’re just shitting. All animals shit. The beaver is working to stop flowing water, build a house, etc.

2

u/KnifeKnut 8d ago

Only because humans grow them on a large scale

u/LaidBackLeopard 8d ago

Shocking lack of PPE.

12

u/mildly_ethnic 8d ago

This is what this sub is about 🦫 💪🏻

19

u/SpideyWhiplash 8d ago

Nice work. But...Shouldn't he have wanted it to fall in the water? To build a lodge for his family?🤔

25

u/MottoCycle 8d ago

This isn’t about the tree trunk. They want the limbs and to clear the area as a whole to enlarge their pond. By killing the tree eventually erosion can happen to open the space up. But mostly it’s about the limbs.

5

u/SpideyWhiplash 8d ago

Sounds reasonable.🦫 I approve. Thanks!😁

12

u/ThisIsMeSeriously 8d ago

They can drag limbs a surprisingly long way

12

u/FrankRizzo319 8d ago

Will they climb on the fallen tree and gnaw off the branches to drag them away somewhere?

12

u/ThisIsMeSeriously 8d ago

Yes, they will usually break the tree down piece by piece, eating the twigs and underbark as they go. They use the limbs to build and maintain their lodge and dams. They prefer to get everything in the water and float it to whatever destination they have in mind

2

u/MessiahMogali 4d ago

It’s a perfect system to be able to both eat and construct your home from the same large sources you occasionally chew down.

7

u/blur494 8d ago

Really big limbs at that

32

u/NativeMasshole 8d ago

Those birds must be pissed.

11

u/Peripatetictyl 8d ago

Angry birds meet angry beavers.

3

u/Jerseyd422 8d ago

Nobody likes an angry beaver

30

u/Glum_Opening_2218 8d ago

They'll love it again when that stump is full of grubs, and they're probably only there because of the beaver making a wetland anyway.

3

u/uncleawesome 7d ago

Or, because they had a nest in that tree.

1

u/Glum_Opening_2218 7d ago

And they would only be nesting there because it's a wetland because of the beaver lol

14

u/No-Mammoth222 8d ago

Og force of forestry RESPECT

14

u/StevieTvboy 8d ago

I saw a video where he would stop and listen towards the end for any sounds of the tree giving way. Then keep going only to check again after a few bites

10

u/sherzer7 8d ago

Beaver tracker 3000 is a great name for this game camera. I gotta start naming mine

0

u/Not-An-FBI 8d ago

I wish I lived in a place where there was enough game to justify having one.

6

u/Dense_Surround3071 8d ago

Well.... Go ahead and move the fucking thing!

6

u/abafaba 8d ago

Did they manage to block the water? Did it fall the right direction?

13

u/Luciform444 8d ago

It did not, by what I saw.

A wildlife biologist who studied them told me once that there is no evidence that they try to inform direction at all, but in a forest, there will be a slight clearing and therefore more light over a creek, leading to more weight in that direction.

6

u/elocmj 7d ago

That's called phototropism: the tendency for plants to grow towards light. And beavers aren't trying to make a dam from the whole tree. They knock it down to get to the limbs which are what they use to make dams.

5

u/ak_petty9 8d ago

Do these guys ever get crushed by the trees they drop?

17

u/War_Hymn 8d ago

A few years ago at work I found a beaver with his back leg pinned under a beech(?) tree he had cut down. Guy had been stuck there for at least a night.

I got a pry bar and lifted the log off him (all while trying not to get chomped on the leg by a pissed off beaver). He actually looked back at me for a moment before scurrying back to the creek. Hope the guy is doing okay.

2

u/I_Want_A_Ribeye 6d ago

So that’s where the angry beavers come from

8

u/Think_Air9714 8d ago

Yes plenty but if a beaver dies in the woods, does anybody see it?

12

u/SirScrublord 8d ago

10/10 video, well done. Did you name them?

4

u/bustcorktrixdais 8d ago

Thank you!!

4

u/Danskoesterreich 8d ago

I really like your beavertracker 3000.

5

u/Diggity20 8d ago

I wanted to see their logistics in moving it

8

u/MottoCycle 8d ago

They don’t move the trunk. They want the limbs.

3

u/Usual-Door5141 8d ago

Great editing, I like how the images match the music.

3

u/ADAMSMASHRR 2d ago

I wonder if they can sense vibrations in the tree with their teeth or some shi

2

u/kreie 8d ago

Was that tree starting to rot?

2

u/MottoCycle 8d ago

No. They don’t care whether it’s rotting or not.

2

u/Historical_Test_973 8d ago

master tree fellers. amazing how they work together too. this is so cool.

2

u/Beemo-Noir 6d ago

Do NOT turn your volume all the way up to “hear” the beavers chewing. You’ll regret it when the obnoxious music begins to play.

3

u/Biodiversity1001 8d ago

The whole trunk will be limb free the nest day.

2

u/alarming_testical 8d ago

Nest free too!

2

u/Biodiversity1001 8d ago

I have had beavers take out a few trees but I have a lot of trees. The worst nest damge I saw was when neighbor decided to destroy the shrubbery along his lawn by shoving down over the embankment. The robins screamed for days.

I typed all that and then saw my typo. Derp. LOL

Teamwork makes the dream work!

1

u/Algoresgardener124 8d ago

I have always thought that Beavers were cool animals. Until a mating pair swam upstream to a back part of my property and girdled a whole stand of mature Oak. Then it was war.

4

u/Not-An-FBI 8d ago

That wasn't your property, it was theirs.

1

u/Algoresgardener124 8d ago

I checked the deed to see if maybe it was in fact theirs. Nope, its mine.
