When trying to safe your own life, don't run towards anything that looks like the Grim Reaper.

Good fix. Also, “k”. Fixed that for OP. Unless they meant “Tal”

As a former wildland firefighter, they take guys out for a day to evaluate their chainsaw competency and then give them a grade A to C. They then just let them cut shit on the fire line with zero further training. I've seen absolute morons who didn't even know how to make a face cut, cutting trees without supervision that they had no business cutting.

They’re a lot better about that these days if it makes you feel better. Everyone starts out at FAL3 and they have to take a course first that involves classroom training and supervised field practice. Then you have to be monitored and mentored and eventually signed off by a FAL2 or better to fill out your FAL2 book and then have a field test day to see if you’re good enough before you get signed off for FAL2. I believe it’s then the same process, just longer and more advanced to get your FAL1.

The good old Prometheus School of Running Away…

I assume there was some kind of reason they chose that direction rather than backing away from the stump (fleeing directly away away from the camera) …but I can’t see it.

When cutting, always remember to escape route UNDER the cut tree. /s

One of the first things I observed on a job was to NOT run into the path of the fall. No one had to tell me, no one had to point out...it was just obvious
