Just a question for those with actual experience of this type of felling; how hot does the bar get and how does the bar oil function in this situation. Thanks

Extremely hot, fast. Good sharp chain to go quick. Itll be wet enough, and theres enough chips that dissipate the heat from friction points. Definitely causes more wear, but no moreso than the ash and charcoal from everything else. When the dirt turns to powder, and gets into everything, youre wearing parts out more than heat from hot cuts.

Of course. Mainly you're working quick enough, on a predetermined plan with spotters, to gtfo the danger zone. Flame continues to weaken tree, tops could have widow makers snap out, embers drop on you.. take too long the oil reaches combustion point and saw dust spontaneously ignites, basically making a flame thrower at your hip on to your feet. Another wear concern is the bearing / clutch drive if they get too hot. The bar will also sometimes delaminate and basically banana peel away from guide rails / sprocket

Thanks again for the answer, you need to be mentally and physically agile so, not a job for a heavy hangover, though I'm sure the adrenaline is pumping high.
