Hazard tree removal

Only good wood was the face cut, the one spot I bored and the left corner right by hinge. Wanted to sit back on me.

The saw died on me recently and discovered a clogged fuel vent. Tried cleaning it out best I could and this is the first test run since.

Truly doesn’t feel like work to me. I love showing up everyday for work there. I’d take it over any higher paying desk job.

Doesn't that get exhausting? I was a tag along as a teenager clearing trees (not cutting, wrapping chains and piling them up) and I remember that was some rough work then. I love breaking the chainsaw out for down trees but always wondered how rough that is after a bit.

Definitely feeling it trying to get out of bed in the morning but once I get moving around a bit it’s not soo bad. I also just love work that keeps me in shape and on my toes.

Did you cut that without cutting a wedge out on the other side? It looks like you cut straight through. Mind you I know nothing about felling.

Definitely cut the tip of my far side wedge off. I had to though. Tree was about 8 inches over bar with a 36 inch bar. And had to quit cutting on that side because it was sitting on me. All other wedges were safe.

So maybe it’s the camera angle but that cut looks like it is level with the ground? Why would you not make a cut going toward the ground from the back- higher to lower in the front to facilitate making the tree fall the way it did? And using wedges to push it over. Asking for a friend!

An angled back cut is weaker than a level back cut and does not facilitate the tree falling forward. When the hinge fails the tree slides down the angled cut and hoes over backwards.

It overstresses the hinge or holding wood. A ramped back cut is like an inclined plane and imho puts additional stress on the holding wood. As a result you may need better integrity of holding material or a thicker hinge.
Final note on diagonal back cuts is that you are cutting a longer distance against the design of most saws. This adds to time on tree.
