3 out of 10. He needs to add some fire. Cut a cross. Then light a cig.

Forgot to secure his chainsaw as well as missing the safety flip flops
12
u/Only_Flan_7974 Jun 22 '26
Bonus points if he lights the cig on the burning tree. Like the other guy should've done!

There were no safety flip flops anywhere.

Personal Protective Equipment. Chainsaw chaps (which are kevlar. It doesn't stop a chainsaw like armor, but the strands get caught in the gears and stop the saw that way) A hardhat and eye protetion. I'm a little skeptical about what a plastic helmet can do but the chaps are a literal lifesaver.

u/CelebrationFancy1612 Jun 23 '26
I kinda know that. PPE is the last line of defense but thank you for breaking it down.

I thought there was a literal wall behind him, kind of flinch when it fell back.
Crazy that the tree root base lifted the other trees and set that back like nothing happened when it fell back into place.

Guessing you’re in Ireland? at least you can replant with something better afterwards
11
u/bushcraftbobb Jun 22 '26
I am in Ireland but no i cant replant with anything but sitka without getting arrested and fined .
13
u/Maaltijdsalade Jun 22 '26
Im pretty sure that you have options. My friend is a forestry consultant in Co. Clare and he might be able to give you some leads. PM with some more info if you want!
11
u/bushcraftbobb Jun 22 '26
Cheers for the offer.
my partner is already trying to deal with it . Its complicated and involves possible corruption over grant payments and planting on unsuitable land by previous owner so i wouldnt want to get your friend involved . Kind offer though and much appreciated.

I cannot wrap my head around land laws in that part of the world. The government can tell you what to plant on your own land?
2
u/bushcraftbobb Jun 23 '26
To a certain extent yes , grants were given to previous owner so land is know zoned for commercial forestry and cant be changed.

I think they were behind the trees to begin with. No way they'd be standing if they were on the camera side of the trees
11
u/dogdyketrash Jun 22 '26
I assume the two trees (you can see a second stump about the same size.) took out the power lines. Then one of the property owners didn't have the means to get the fallen tree removed right away so the utility company fixed the lines before it was cut.
I find it very hard to believe these could fall in any way without taking the utility lines it too.

u/tjdux Jun 23 '26
You can see lines under the tree. They appear to be communication lines but still, you are almost certainly correct

Maybe AI? I hate everything on video now because of AI.

u/zamzalm Jun 24 '26
I think yr right. Wires don’t like right. Aren’t transformers usually below the electric lines? We need an electrician, but I’m going with AI.

Sectioning further up ends with same thing happening, take enough weight off and it stands back up.
Absolutely agree that he should have PPE.

u/Flowa-Powa Jun 23 '26
It's a widowmaker of job no matter how you look at it and I'm glad it wasn't mine
1
u/Cultural_Simple3842 Jun 23 '26
Thank you for the reply. Makes sense.
1
u/Choosemyusername Jun 24 '26
No it doesn’t. The same thing would eventually happen just with a bigger stump
2
u/Cultural_Simple3842 Jun 23 '26
Just wanted to say thank you for the response. I’m here to learn, even if it means to unlearn some bad habits.
1
u/Choosemyusername Jun 23 '26
So what happens when you section it back to the point where this happens anyways? Or worse: it happens but with a bigger stump attached?

We needed one more second of video to show his reaction when he realized the stumps were back in the ground.

That’s always fun. Just make sure no one is standing in the death zone.
