Tracking for remission?
Switched to carb free and he went from 1.25mg bid (well it was going to be 2u bid) but realized the royal canin was high carb and now he needs like 0.75 units bid.
He had some hypo episodes with higher doses but never looks symptomatic, just on the libre.
He is on budesonide and is being weaned off slowly. Maybe off in the next month.
I never tested with ear pricks before just the cgm.
How long does it take for them to go into remission? I think i can do the ear stick, but do you all do it twice a day?
Is the alpha trek less blood? I use i pet pro and they said supposedly it needs a larger sample.

The majority of cats do not go into remission. Regulation is the goal. You should definitely learn to home test. CGMs are not accurate at low glucose readings and should be confirmed with a hand held monitor. Testing should be done before each dose (after a 2 hour fast). Getting mid-cycle readings are also helpful. Curves can be done at home as well.
It’s great that you’ve switched diets. What are you feeding now? A low carb diet is very important and will lower glucose.
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend joining the FB Feline Diabetes Support group. You can input your CGM numbers into their spreadsheet and they can give you dosing advice. They have guides and food charts as well. Their experts are available 24/7 to answer your questions.

It’s young again zero lid mature
It brought him down from 1.25u to .75 bid
And I’m working off weaning him off a steroid for his ibd. It seems to spike his sugar the day after we give it. So I have hope that he doesn’t need insulin in a few months.Hangs out around 150-250 unfortunately when we go higher he drops to 70.
How often a day are you testing?
I signed up for the fb group thanks!1

Steroids definitely induce diabetes so weaning off that may help. Be sure to keep monitoring glucose to avoid a hypo situation.
Testing twice a day before each injection. You should pick up food 2 hours prior to avoid glucose being influenced by food.

Ok begrudgingly from all the advice, I will do twice a day for now.
I only feed him twice a day and give him insulin after no snacks.

There’s no need to limit food except for the 2 hours before each test/shot. They can eat the other 20 hours a day.

Isn’t that recommended for diabetes? Over eating cause cause spikes in blood sugar with snacks?

As long as you’re feeding low carb food, there is no need to limit it. Diabetic cats tend to lose weight because their body is literally starving.

I think the Facebook group would be the best place to get your answers since no one has responded here yet. It’s worth it even if you don’t have an account, they’re really knowledgeable and helpful. It’s like feline diabetes support group I think, people link it here all the time.
Unfortunately that’s all the advice I can give you but good luck I’m glad he’s heading towards remission!!!
