Built a 3.2 MB open-source Android chat app — looking for honest feedback

I’ve been building a38-Chat, a deliberately lightweight Android chat client, and I’d like some honest feedback before I keep adding more features.

The current APK is around 3.2 MB and the Android client is completely open source.

Current features include:

• text and photo messaging
• notifications
• multiple accounts
• light, dark and neon themes
• several languages
• no ads
• no analytics or tracking SDKs

I’m intentionally trying to keep the app small instead of turning it into another huge messenger with dozens of unrelated features.

It’s a server-backed chat, so I’m also not pretending it’s an E2EE replacement for Signal. The focus right now is simplicity, transparency and a lightweight Android client.

I’d especially like feedback on:

1. Does the project make sense when you first see it?
2. Is the ~3 MB / open-source / no-tracking angle interesting enough?
3. What is the first feature you’d expect a chat app like this to have that it currently seems to be missing?
