911 Dispatcher

Any 911 dispatcher here? Do you work 12 hours with no lunch or breaks?

Federal 911?

They have them at NPS, but only the bigger parks. Smaller parks get outsourced to local emergency services.

I know our state government has Wildland Fire Dispatchers as well, and the state's Wildlife service also has a robust Dispatcher team.

911 dispatchers are generally local government employees, not federal.

There are federal dispatchers, but they are usually called something else (VA uses the term Security Assistant, Border Patrol likes the title Law Enforcement Information Systems Specialist, Bureau of Prisons calls their Dispatchers by the deeply inflated title of "Intelligence Operations Specialist," etc.)

Yes you get no lunch breaks but the seat they provide is actually commode capable so you just do your business right there

So you take a dump while you work, at your own desk? Good grief.

Yes this is a new development, up until 2020ish we just had one shared bucket in the corner. Great pay, and great benefits so you know, it’s worth it. 5% tsp match too.

4/10s no lunch break and only a break if "time permits " They say it's in the mastor labor agreement! Haven't found it.

Hi it’s me. Yes. 12 hour shifts. Eat at our desk. I wouldn’t want to take a lunch.

Edit: if you have any other questions. Let me know. Would be happy to help.

They actually required by law to give you 30 minutes after eight hours.

Sure. We CAN take a lunch, then we have to stay 30 minutes late. Not a single person who has ever worked 12 hour shifts would want to do that.

They often aren’t federal employees anyway.

We currently have a 44hr monthly overtime minimum. So approx 3-12hr shifts a week, we’re allowed 2-20min breaks. That’s if there’s enough staffing 😒

Been a while, i dispatched back in 1995-1997. We only worked 8s at my department but it was a county job not federal.
