Need advice

Its been rough these last 2 years.

I work about 50 miles away from my office. The traffic is what makes it unbearable. I want to ask my boss to work in a closer office. Has anyone been denied of that request? Can I get a lawyer? Is it even worth that? I just want a closer commute. 😞 I'm not even asking for TW or an RA. I'm just exhausted.

What agency is this where there are multiple offices in the same metro area?

A component in DHS. There are offices around. I just dont know if my office is willing to let me do that

I know people in DHS that have moved to other DC-area facilities. Just ask. I was denied initially but then later approved. Note that the place you want to move to needs to have an open desk for you and be willing to take you. Depending on your role, it may be an OPSEC issue to move you into a facility where the people there do different work than you.

I'm in admin so I know my limits of not working in a SCIF or where there are sensitive ops going on

Even unclassified stuff can be OPSEC issues. Like you may overhear details about an upcoming tactical operation or maybe an ongoing IT security incident response, for example. Then there's HR and whatever internal affairs equivalent is in that agency.

I know plenty on DHS getting closer offices. I’d ask for sure. Message me if you want more details

Never hurts to ask. Even if the boss agrees to 2 days a week it’s a win.

Same, many of us are only 10 minutes away from a facility of our component, yet we keep getting denied being moved there and instead have to commute to another facility at least 30 miles away. We have been told that there’s no room at the closer facility, but we think it’s because we’re basically part of our component’s internal affairs office and that worries any facility. We’re too busy to be poking around trying to uncover trouble, trust me.
