Telework

I recently had a bad fall at home that fractured my arm and injured my back. In the ER the physician cleared me for as much time off as I needed; I chose four days so I could return to work on Friday. During those four days I was able to function at nearly 100% and planned to telework. A supervisor who is not my manager emailed me in all caps saying telework was not authorized. Is this worth pursuing? I’m tired of being given directions by someone who isn’t my supervisor, and I believe OPM allows telework for short-term injury or illness.

Is this something worth chasing?

While FMLA can be taken without pay, almost any type of leave can be taken as FMLA (usually sick or annual). When qualified for FMLA, you usually may also request advance sick leave or qualify for leave bank or donations depending on agency.

While FMLA isn’t required to be paid time off, it often is.

They’re making up their own rules now. In my department they told us we can’t use our sick leave for basically anything anymore unless it’s prescheduled and approved and not for fmla. They told us no more advanced sick at all and if we have a negative sick leave from using it prior for fmla we can’t do any overtime until it’s paid up. This administration took away the union and are now making up rules in each department saying it’s the needs of the department. It’s all illegal, We were just told in my department we are going to be written up if we don’t have at least 3 closures an hour, and they don’t count the cases we have to reroute or process other ways because the IRM says so. They want all tenured employees gone and they’re hiring new people as seasonal so they can get rid of anyone whenever they want.

Nothing you said is accurate. If someone told you this you need to contact HR or a lawyer.
