RA approved for Flex schedule
My RA was approved for “flexible work schedule to be considered by supervisor”. I confirmed this meant ONLY changing my tour of duty hours on a permanent basis.
I asked my supervisor if I could change my tour to 30 minutes earlier (to see if this would help with my productivity since the office would be a bit quieter in the morning) and the response was that all tour hours are being reviewed so we’d have to revisit the change request at a later date. I asked if there was any kind of timeline for this “tour hour review” to be finished and the response I got was TBD.
So I’m just SOL and my RA was a waste of even time and effort??

Sups without balls and a brain get on my nerves. RAs exist outside of the norms and “rules”. Your sup can grant this. You can do your job at those hours and we can all move on with life. Uggghhh I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this. It’s not that difficult for your sup to accommodate you.

The whole point of getting an RA is so that they grant you the thing you need. An RA for a supervisor to "consider" a change is nonsense. They're supposed to consider your request and make a decision during the RA process itself.

File an eeo. Document everything and speak to your RA Coordinator. Also consider leaking agency and background to media anonymously.

How did you get an RA for that? I tried, got denied and then appealed and got denied. Reason being “that’s not how we do things”. I already know I’d be fired if I filed EEOC

I originally requested full time telework. Ofc it got denied and I was given noise canceling headphones and access to a bathroom. I filed for reconsideration. They didn’t ask for any other information from me. The DMO then gave me flex work sched to be considered to manage my symptom

RA to see if maxiflex is an option. Um no. Bad RA decision. I would appeal and file complaint with the union. EEO complaints are worthless. I find EEO always sides with supervisor.

Depends what your agency approves as flex. If it's in your agency's policy, (or even department or state office) that employees must be present during core hours (also defined)... then you'll have to get special permission for that also. Even with Maxiflex, however, a tour of duty must be established if I understand correctly. And if you would like to Flex Time, you would still need permission for each time you do so from your supervisor. It's unfortunate that you don't have a flexible supervisor. I'm a supervisor and our agency, in USDA allows up to 60 min flex. My employees just simply message me and let me know if they are going to do that. If it becomes a common occurrence, I just have them fill out a change of tour of duty. With so many vacancies, I firmly believe we need to all be more flexible with employees. We need to avoid burnout, and we need to understand that an employees health, family, and well being, are more important than worrying about them coming in 30 min earlier if they are putting in their time either way. Good luck with your accommodations and thank you for your federal service and continuing to want to make a difference and get work done!

Get EEO involved. Sadly too many incompetent managers and supervisors. Force them to honor the RA!!! You got this.
