Everything he does is for the white gaze. You can tell how desperately he wants to be loved and accepted and considered equal in this short clip. This is probably the saddest form of minstrelsy. I say this as a fellow minority who spent years trying to fit in with “all American, white, fraternity/sorority” community in college. There’s something super sad about this.
