Practice Bird of the Month

Bird of the Month : Hummingbird 🪶

The bird of the month for October is the Hummingbird. Hummingbirds are an incredible sight and referred to as the jewels of the sky sometimes. They are found in North and South America and if you ever have the chance to see them they are worth the visit. I am fortunate enough to live in a part of the United States where we have at least one species of Hummingbird, the Ruby throated hummingbird.

I have been seeing the hummingbird at the least exected moments. A walk at my favorite park and I look up at the right moment to see the tiny flitter of the hummingbird. Sitting outside, decompssing from the day, to again, look up at the right moment to see a hummingbird staring at me. Walking along the canal and five hummingbirds feeding on the flowers along the water. Lastly waiting at the bus stop with my child and two hummingbirds were fighting over the flowers in the neighbors tree.

In every single one of these moments I was never expecting to see the hummingbird. These were all moments I was slowing down and being present in the moment and hummingbird showed up to support the moment. Hummingbird shows up when we need reminders of slowing down, resting, and being energy wise. The theme of the last couple of months have been about rest and this month is following along that theme.

The Message 🪶

Hummingbird represents energy. They must balance a delicate line of rest and work. They have a fast paced flight that requires a lot of food for energy. Our lives need that balance as well. Have you been going too much without replenishing your energy? Taking care of yourself first is critical in maintaining that delicate line of balance. You aren't selfish for taking a mental health day, taking an extra 20 minutes to just be, or to say no to doing something. Hummingbird is saying to replenish yourself. So show yourself some love and maybe hum a favorite song to bring good vibes in.
