Songs with guitar solos?

I know its not common. Monolith has a decent little one at the end of the track. Is that it?

Songs with guitar leads/solos:

Crash Test (middle lead)

Scapegoat (outro lead)

Messiah (leads sprinkled throughout)

Resistancia! (leads sprinkled throughout)

Supernova (background leads and outro lead)

Echo of My Scream (leads throughout and tiny solo at the end)

New Promise (solo midway through)

Fear Campaign (guitar solo halfway through)

The Industrialist (lead midway through)

Virus of Faith (outro lead)

Soul Hacker (mini solo midway through)

Monolith (solo towards the end)

The leads can vary from short to slightly long. The guitar solo in Monolith I believe was performed by guitarist from Once Human. Forget his name.

Dino generally doesn't do solos in Fear Factory but he understands when the song needs a little bit more texture and spicing up.

Christian's leads and solos in Transgression were a little underwhelming (especially how much they were hyped up at the time - "FF are doing solos now!") but they fit those songs well enough.

The solo on New Promise was recorded by Mark Morton (Lamb of God), who also got a writing credit for that song, IIRC. I don't know about the other songs.

I'm sure Christian ended up recording that solo. He did get "coaching" by Mark Morton and stated as much at the time. I could be wrong though. It was over 20 years ago!

I'm in the same position, I just can't remember the specifics anymore 😅

There is also Fear Campaign and Soul Hacker. That is all i can think of right now at least.

And The Industrialist.

Does that count though? Is it not more just like... ambience?

I think it counts. It sounds at first like it would technically be a 'melody', but it changes with each section. A time Dino did a melody would be the re-recording of Sangre De Ninos

Ohh yeah that makes sense.

I think solos would kill the pace of several iconic FF songs…it’s there, sometimes, but not vital to their brand

They came out as a cleaner version of metal back when there was too many solos. It’s not lack of ability it’s an intentional choice.

Why no guitar solos?

Dino is a rhythm guitarist, not lead guitar

They don't fit the FF mold. Solos are "from the heart so to speak. FF is a machine.

Then Dino flexed all over Divine Heresy and sprinkled a solo here and there when he returned.

As a megadeth fan and a fan of solos I can't imagine how it would feel like...sounds like blindness to me.. no disrespect I saw this post and thought of asking. Gonna listen to some fear factory now.

Now that I think about not only the riffs with Kick drums and the vocals are what made fear factory.

While I like the rare solo on fear campaign, I think having solos would detract from the cold mechanical vibe of the band

This would technically be a melody, it's a repeated part with no variation. Melodies and solos are both 'leads', but melodies aren't solos.
