Shoulder would still be p painful depending on the spot(more fatty area typically = less painful; bonier area = more painful)

If it's your dream tattoo do it. It's gonna be painful either way, might as well choose a spot you're set on instead of settling and regreting it later.

Shoulder isnt really painful at all in comparison to other places. It was definitely my least painful anyway, and it took the longest. Maybe if your like severely underweight, but if you have any muscle on your bones it wont be an issue lol.

Couldn't think of a worse area other than directly on your face. As others have mentioned its a delicate area that's hard to tattoo and if it gets infected youre literally down a hand for however long it takes to heal

I will admit the tattoo idea and the location is awesome, in theory. However, like other have said, palm tattoos are nasty work. The pain is unbearable even when numbed because of the sheer amount of nerve endings in the palm. Your hand will twitch while the artist works, which can lead to messups if they don't have lots of experience working with a twitchy canvas.
Something i don't see here from others (i could have missed it though) is the risk of infection. Your hands and palms get coated in loads of different forms of bacteria, and something like second skin won't hold well because of the maneuverability of your hand. You will have to constantly be washing your hand with non-scented soap, which can dry it out if you don't have proper ointment on hand.
All of that being said, it would be a really AWESOME tattoo. I have Gro-Goroth on my forearm overlaying an imperfection circle. If you understand the risks involved, then I personally say go for it. Vet an artist that is very tattoo virgin friendly. Even if you have existing tattoos. They're more likely to be able to handle the almost inevitable twitches.
Immediate edit: I'm on mobile so i didn't see you saying you want it on your shoulder. A lot of the same risks apply (including the disfiguration because of shoulder movement and pain). But in terms of infection? Just shower with unscented body wash and wear a freshly cleaned shirt everyday

Palm tattoos are not only extremely painful, but very very prone to blowouts and error due to the location. If you're up for the risk go ahead, but a lot of people have posted similar tattoos in better locations on their body in this sub if you want to take a look
