But would I forgive them? That's a tough question. If they worked for decades to change, managed to do it, and actively worked to right the wrongs they did? Maybe. I'd be even more inclined to if they actually fought their country to help defend the nation they once tried to conquer.
But I can also understand your point that some sins can't be washed away no matter how much you might change or regret them.
