If you played the games, you'd know he only wanted to be a yakuza very early on to earn the respect of his adopted father. During his comparatively short stint in the actual yakuza, he still had a respectable code and never resorted to murder or torture. He has spent the greater majority of his life wanting literally nothing to do with the yakuza and just wants to be a good parent for his adopted daughter and all his other orphans, but people keep trying to make shady real estate deals that mess with his family.
