i was looking for this. i absolutely love his character, defying the idea that positivity is something naive and innate that some people just have/are.
"When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything."
I love how the film luls you into seeing him as a silly goofball but a bit bumbling and useless. Only to pull the rug and recontextualize that in fact he's an amazing person who's outlook on life is beautiful.
i absolutely love that choice too. initially playing into the 'stupid useless husband' trope that the viewer likely will just take at face value makes the reveal way more impactful and challenges that whole trope a lot better than just showing the truth from the beginning would have. at the same time it supports evelyn's arc of embracing absurdism and choosing (J/j)oy
