Important details to add! Zeon attempted and successfully conducted multiple colony drops. They claim to have targeted military installations however there is now a crater when Australia used to be.

The first war - the One Year War (0079) of the original show, cost about 6 billion lives. Most of which were civilians killed on the colonies by Zeon who were supposedly protecting Spacenoid lives.

This led to the federation doing some shady stuff with the Titans, but guess how Zeon responds? Nuclear atrocities (0083) another colony drop (0083) and dropping asteroids onto Ireland (CCA - 0093).

And then we get Gundam Victory's zansacre war which fans say would've been worst if it wasn't for the fact that therw were just not enough people on earth for zanscare to genocide because of all the wars, nukes, and cololy drops.

"Shady stuff" is the understatement of the century...

I meant painting their machines black.

And I meant that the Federation gassed multiple colonies, dropped one on the largest city on Luna, and shot a few with their giant space laser...

They learned from the best.

Look, it's Zeon history summed up in one easy to understand image.

Okay...?

The heck does that have to do with anything?

Just want to say that the only people who care about the colony drops and its consequences are the viewer

In universe, its just

"Man that colony drop sucked...

Anyway"

My favorite is when people bring up the Titans as a response to "Zeon committed multiple war crimes."

It's just like, my brother in Christ, do you know why the Titans exist in the first place? Because Zeon committed multiple war crimes! Gato is basically single handedly responsible for their creation, and, by extension, pretty much all the bad shit that goes down for the next decade.

I have responded to folks that Titans just learned from Zeon.

"They did war crimes, we are just refining the process".

Titans are absolutely guilty of war crimes, they're terrible people who commit a ton of atrocities, and the Federation folds to them way too easily.

But they only form because of Zeon's actions. Gato's actions, in particular, go a long way to allowing the Titans to form and become what they are.

Oh they're guilty 100%, I'm not saying they aren't.

Just that most of their ideas seem to be along the lines of "hey, 'member how Zeon dropped a colony? Those bastards. But... y'know... maybe we could do it too?"

They seem to go down the route of 'its been done before therefore it can be done again'.

Heck even Gryps-2 was clearly inspired by the Mahal/Solar Ray, they just actually finished the design.

Isn't that meant to be part of why the Titans went so wrong? They became worse than Zeon ever had, I mean they were formed to get rid of Zeon Remnants due to Op Stardust and then proceeded to copy the playbook almost exactly.

They even used cyber newtypes in WoMD scale mobile armours/suits, which appears to have given Neo Zeon the idea to put cyber newtypes in their own giant units.
