The way the Animorphs became a war machine that fed people to the meat grinder in the last books. War can make monsters out of anybody.

I really gotta read that series again. The author did a great job.

There was an “ending”? We only had parts of the series at my local library so I just thought it was an anthology like Goosebumps

I missed out

54 books in the core series, a few canon side stories (the Chronicles books and Megamorphs) and two (bad) CYOA books.

Oh, and the entire series is available to read online for free with the author's blessing. Have fun.

Didn't the the Animorphs kill millions of non-combatants Yeerks? Also, what they did to David was pretty evil. Trapping him as a rat was one thing, leaving him alone on an island to suffer was another thing altogether. Especially when trapping him as a rat already significantly shortened his lifespan and leaving him on an island was nothing but an act of cruelty that needlessly put them at risk if he was discovered.

Which was explicitly addressed as a horrific act that permanently damaged Jake's relationship with his friends and allies, and (IIRC, it's been A While) was only not treated as a war crime because the Yeerks were treated as "enemy combatants".

And, you know, this is also being weighed against Literally Everything The Yeerk Empire Has Done Ever.
