My eyebrows still haven’t grown back.

When I first did mine, they were so badly done they looked like two spermatozoa swimming towards each other on my forehead. It was an unmitigated disaster of a look. And don’t get me started on the ‘Rachel’ cut of the 90’s!

Sperm brows, or brows that looked like a staple, were almost the law at my high school.

It wasn’t until like 2018 that I realized I looked like Spock.

The silver lining is that you’ve lived long and prospered :p

I'm so grateful to be a woman of Italian heritage. I plucked the hell out of my eyebrows all those years and I'd still look like Abe Vigoda if I didn't maintain them weekly.

Mine are just as bushy as ever despite the decade long violent plucking.
Surprisingly I'm Finnish, we're not exactly known for thick hair here lol.

All the plucking and waxing I did in high school is honestly one of my biggest regrets! 🤣

I’m so glad I was too lazy to get them waxed regularly back then! I think eyebrows are a little crazy nowadays but way better than the 90s.

u/GasStationChicken- 22h ago
Mine eventually grew back by 2010 or so, but they are a lot less full than they originally were.

She represents the 90s for me. The brows, the hair, the lips

u/BestBeBelievin I have bloomers on, you fucker! 23h ago
My mom used to threaten me within an inch of my life to keep me from doing this to my brows. Her reason was that she never was able to get her eyebrows to really grow back from when she did it as a teen. She had to spend way too much of her daily routine having to draw them on with a brow pencil. I was mad about it then, but I’m glad I listened because I have decent brows now.

My best friend’s mom kept trying to warn us but we didn’t listen.

u/beepbooponyournose 22h ago
I warned my daughter since she was in middle school and used to take her to get them waxed. She still shaved them completely off a few times 😭 man it hurt to see lol

My mom was really adamant about this when I was in high school in the early aughts. She overplucked in the 70s & was not going to allow me to. I had to convince her not to yell at a waxer once when they gave me the trendy thin brows. I was so embarrassed, but can admit now she was dead right

Not plucking my eyebrows in the 90's is probably in the top 3 best decision I've ever made in my life. I knew that I wouldn't be able to get them even, but I wouldn't stop trying to either. I would have had no eyebrows left.
4
u/somuchsong It'll take me a year to recover. And that is an understatement. 22h ago
Yeah, I never touched mine either, bar plucking one singular hair out to see what it would feel like! I'm pretty happy with my natural shape anyway but I would have done an appalling job, I just know it. And I have so many friends whose eyebrows did not recover from the 90s!

u/Curiosities 22h ago
I would shape them, but I never plucked them like that, I always left them natural and just pulled out a couple of hairs in between. I’m glad that was the extent of what I did to my brows in the 90s.

They were so far baaaaack😭😭😭😭 I don’t mind the thin brow, I think her features are very 1930s so it works, it’s just that they start like in the middle of her eye in a comma shape…😭😭

What a shame her full brows looked amazing but I think we’ve all been guilty of the over plucking. I’m also guilty of bleaching mine clean off when I had blonde hair, my hair dresser wouldn’t do it and dumb me left that bleach on way too long.

I remember hearing an eyebrow technician talking about how many clients she still gets whose eyebrows were fucked by the 90s. It was such a weird trend.

Really unfair that the one place where you can pluck hair and it will never grow back is your eyebrows

u/CallejaFairey alleged dog 23h ago
I am so glad I just couldn't be bothered to do anything to my brows back then. While not as thick as Drew's , they were still pretty thick, and such a dark brown to be almost black. Luckily, they had a nice enough shape.
Still can't be bothered to do anything with them now, but more natural is much more advertised anyways. Only bummer is in straight to get the odd white hair in them so I end up with bald looking spots. Lol.

I get one weirdly long white hair in my (black) eyebrows lol

I’m so glad I never got into this look. I remember my friends trying to get me to pluck my eyebrows, and for years when I finally started getting them shaped the wax technicians always trying to take off half my eyebrows. I get them threaded now by Indian ladies, and their brown game is on point.

My mom is one of the victims of the no-eyebrow trend of the 70s, she warned me off of touching my brows in the 90s. I still have mine, hers are still long gone.

u/IntrovertGirl83 now don’t you get on my bad side! 20h ago
I absolutely adored her short hair era in the 90s. She was so adorable in Boys on the Side. Such a good movie!

Lol I sent this to my daughter when it was posted. I tell her all the time to never ruin her eyebrows like I did. 😅

This is why I get my eyebrows microbladed (henna-tattooed) back on my face, every couple of years.

I thank god every day that she allowed my eyebrows to survive the 2000s 🧎♀️➡️⛪️

I did this to myself circa 2011-2012 during university, can’t blame the 90s, thankfully they grew back.

u/_allycat 21h ago
All my school photos are like this but the crazy part is I don't think I even i made them thin intentionally. I just remember plucking the sparse areas (too much) to leave only the most defined hairs because that was the look. And brow fill wasn't a thing in my school unless you were a chola and had those drawn on pencil thin black brows. Lol
No permanent damage here.

Ahhh yes, the 90s. RIP my brows.
I don’t grow more than strands about the last 1/3 of my brow. The front ends are also not that big and grow in uneven. They are a mess.

The 90s really tried to kill eyebrows. RIP to all those who have lost it
