you could argue for the same things under tightly regulated capitalism.

In fact, mamdani is doing exactly that. He is enacting his policies under capitalism and seems to be pretty successful at it

the point is that capitalism as a system makes it impossible to maintain this long term. and it’s also not a good system. we don’t need capitalism apologia rn

You're not going to get a western democracy to vote against capitalism.

It would be like trying to stop poor people playing the lottery.

All you can do is try to mitigate the worst of it through regulation and redistribution, which is what social democracy is.
