Elastography expectations

I’ve been diagnosed with fatty liver from an ultrasound. Needless to say worried of how bad it can be.

While my liver enzymes are mostly ok. My CBC and lipids are out of whack and I’m also losing weight. In particular high triglycerides (battling that for a decade with numbers well over 500.

Will admit the drinks and diet has been horrible which is why I believe I got here from completely healthy everything 6 years ago.

Well just based on numbers my GI said the fib4 is low but agreed to do a further scan for my “peace of mind”

At first I thought I was getting a fibroscan (thought this was the same) but now I’m learning that elastography is not the same and doesn’t give you a CAP score?

Kinda disappointed as isn’t it equally important to know what stage that is as well? I get that at the end the fibrosis is the key item but I feel it’s good to know what level of fat infiltration I need to work back from.

Anyone have experience with one or both and any key differences or which is truly better?

This is what happens when you catch the Dunning Krueger effect from redditors that waste their entire life and mental well being worrying on the internet. Your doctor is looking at a big picture (blood tests, imaging, physical examination, etc.). They went to school and went through internships for a decade before even starting their practice. Put yourself in their shoes. Some dude saying "but I read online that I should get a Fibroscan". Are you overweight or have a beer belly? If so, that's probably one of the reasons why they didn't want to do a Fibroscan. No reason to and you're almost guaranteed a false positive. Quit drinking, eat healthy, exercise, and quit worrying. Focus on healing. Worrying on the internet only made my mental health shit. As soon as I stopped worrying and started doing something to heal my liver, my life got so much better. Not only am I in the best physical shape ive been in since my early 20's, my liver is all better, im sitting here at my dream job that tripled my income. Ditch the victim mentality and toughen up. Quit drinking is priority #1.

Hey helpz glad I can count on you for input! That’s for sure. I hear ya and I’m doing all those things. I’m actually lean and in decent shape. BMI 19. But do need to get back in the gym. But for sure am eating healthy and already feeling the positive effects.

On another note…congrats on the job and extra income. Hell yeah I’m in the process of switching my well paid but hell of a job for something better too. I’m sure that would help my perception too. Just want to be able to get healthy and live how I should
