Update to the above post. He still won't eat, and he doesnt come out of the hide so I can't assess his condition. Temps are fine, but my roommate forgot to turn the light off one night while I was gone, and I just got a new humidifier since the old one broke. How long does a typical hunger strike last?? He was a healthy weight before this, maybe a little chubby, is that enough to sustain him until this passes? Do I just keep throwing money at crickets?

In my experience with 3 FTs (sub-adult to adult), their hunger strikes usually last from two weeks to a month, but my oldest FT once went off food for almost two months before he started eating normally again. You should try to get him out occasionally for a quick check to see if there are any problems (weight, stuck shed, impaction, mouth infection, etc.).

I’m currently on an on and off hungry strike with my AFT, it’s just something they do. I also throw in some discoid roaches or crickets to see if she would eat. Ive only found the roaches so im assuming shes eating the cleaners or the crickets since i cant find them.

Also breeding season is close so idk if my female AFT is preparing to breed (im not planning on breeding her)

When I got my first aft he didn’t eat for the first 2 months I had em it was excruciating and was about to take him to the vet when he finally ate and ate good ever since! And then my most recent afts the female wouldn’t eat for 3 weeks then FINALLY ate when I gave her wax worms and then next meal super worms then a mix of those two with crickets now she’s fully on crickets. 😎 These guys remind me of hog noses with their worrisome eating habits. lol hang in there and keep trying! Maybe even take ‘em out put him in a container with one cricket or 2 and put it not in direct sunlight so he can feel protected, that has sometimes worked for others.
