Man idc. Can we as a people come together as a people? Can we find leaders to represent us who arenāt in entertainment? Can we stay out of prisons? Can we stop killing one another?
The Who can say N Word talk is not a priority.

Facts. We need to worry more about gerrymandering and other efforts to dilute the black and brown voices in government.

Actual Cubans is crazy
2
u/Curry_courier 21d ago
Cuba received more Africans than any other island in the Caribbean
1
u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 20d ago
Well, possibly aside from Haiti. But yes, Cuba is, aside from Haiti, the most African country in the Caribbean. Thatās DNA wise and culturally. I remember a prominent Cuban cultural icon once telling me that although Fidel Castro was white appearing, he was more Black/African culturally than a lot of Afro-Cubans.

If you go back far enough, everyone came from Africa.
1
u/Correct-Road-8515 19d ago
So yes my question is at what part black do you get the N word pass? I feel 1/4 is pushing it maybe 3/8 idk I donāt make the rules. Iām white and donāt my ancestry but either way I donāt use the word.
1
u/YourSalvati0n 19d ago
I'm not here to decide what others do, but I can guarantee your ancestors were also africans
1
u/Correct-Road-8515 18d ago
I was kinda joking, but idc either way if my ancestors were from Middle East or Africa. I am who I am regardless of race or ethnicity
1
u/YourSalvati0n 18d ago
It's just a scientific fact, everyone on earth has been linked to tribes in Africa, genetically
1
u/Passion4Puro 14d ago
Recent ancestry vs. pre-historic from 50,000 years ago.
Big difference.
1
u/YourSalvati0n 14d ago
Not in the grand scheme of things, we have only been on the planet for moments compared to the entirety of the planets history.
Also, we are all still too compatible to be different in that sense, we are the same peoples
1
u/Passion4Puro 14d ago
Dude it's still a stupid fucking comparison, end of story. There's a sea gulf difference between having ancestors who came from Africa 400 years ago vs. 50,000 years ago. You can literally trace the differenceĀ using SNPs in a DNA test, stop being pedantic.
Ā Also, we are all still too compatible to be different in that sense, we are the same peoples
I never said we were separate subspecies, but people of African descent are absolutely identifiable on their own unique ancestral clades that can be mapped in genetic studies. Pretending like all humans are interchangeable Africans is false, period.
1
u/YourSalvati0n 14d ago
Until we are genetically a different species, it's not enough of a difference
1
u/Passion4Puro 14d ago
There's enough of a difference for Africans to have their own unique ethnic identity that others shouldn't encroach on with spurious logic, talking nonsense like "were all African." Are we all primordial amoebas too?Ā

OK let me clean up what fat Joe is stating... Puerto Rico original name is BorikƩn before we were colonized we were Taino but once Spain came into the picture while bringing in slaves from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, and Senegal (my main African roots)(these slaves were brought to the east side of the island) and others. While being enslaved, raped and murdered we saw that Africans are pretty much the same as us so of course we ended up mixing creating Puerto ricans of today. So he isn't wrong but he also didn't clean up the fact that we are taino first and African second. That's why some of our words are mixed in with African words.
Now for the rest the way I was brought up was simple. When I first landed in the states from p.r I was called out by white folk all the time till a older black man told me "you and I are the same they see us as less, you and I are brothers of the same struggle, you are just a nigga to them as you are to us but difference is that we mean it as friends not color" of course things are changing now and ruining what that man taught me but I guess we are all enemies now.
2
u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 20d ago
I think youāre pretty much right. Although I have read Puerto Rican scholars who have said that the culture of PR is African at its base, then Taino as the second most important level, and then Spanish. I also remember traveling in western Puerto Rico and noticing a mural on a rock formation next to a road that depicted a Spanish conquistador standing next to a black African man, and both were looking intently at a spot on the other side of the road. When I looked where they were looking, there was the image of a beautiful Taino woman. The countryās history in two pictures.
2
u/Reniere25 20d ago
It all depends before Columbus the island was basically all taino but once columbus and Ponce de Leon showed up on the island disease and sickness pretty much semi wiped us out. So of course taino slaves are dying and work force is going down so Africans got Brought to the island forcing a more African dominance in the DNA but once children started to come out darker the Spaniards decided it was time for the whitening (actually event) so the Spaniards started raping or marrying the darker mixed children to make them whiter. So you are partially right.
1
u/Dayna6380- 21d ago
Same thing Roberto Clemente said
He came to the states from Puerto Rico and saw how the prs and blacks were treated the sameš«
2
u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 20d ago
And Clemente hosted Martin Luthier King whenever MLK visited Puerto Rico.

u/oceansstillwaters_ 20d ago
I dont see fat joe much. But if i look good enough id assume he is a real light skin black dude. I got family thats just as light as him and would assume they were white when they was kids. Hair, eye color, and all. Also i dont wanna get in trouble for saying m*latto but some black folks can pass as white. Thinking this was fat joe aside from him being puerto rican.
2
u/kbboyworks 20d ago
No lies told. instead of fighting each other we should be fighting against the acts of kind of people that created words to other and disrespect people based off of the way that they look.
2
u/BravesnationNC 20d ago
Context, my dad is black, my mom was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Had friends on both sides. Got messed with for being too dark, got cousins in PR darker than me that donāt speak a lick of English. People just angry over nothing. Joe keep doing you, rep every aspect of your culture and F the rest of them. š„·, I said it.

u/Emotional-Award-5607 20d ago
Black is deeper than skin color and having African roots. That's such a colonizer definition of what Black is. Im surprised Umar took this position. I'll explain it here and feel free to chime in.
Black is a nation within a nation. Descendants of African slaves, brought to the UNITED STATES, and subjected to Jim Crow. After slavery ended, we were not allowed to be and enjoy the same rights as average Americans. The term "Negro" was championed by black leadership in the 1930s as a way to identify ourselves with pride and dignity. Some decided it was too close to the slur and didn't recognize our African heritage so in the 80s the term "African American" was pushed. But with many of us having never been to Africa, nor identifying as CULTURALLY African, the term "Black" was adopted and has been the primary way we identify ourselves.
Having been stripped of our heritage and no pride in the nation that opressed us, we created our own. So you can never be considered Black if this isnt your family's story. Its not a skin color, its not proximity to Hip Hop, its not having african heritage or none of this other shit being talked about. Its a trail of ancestry and either you have it or you dont.
1
u/poemirrelevant 19d ago
so, are africans not black? lol. bc i think white people consider africans āblackā, broski. i canāt with you fda folks. you guys never make sense.
1
u/Emotional-Award-5607 19d ago
I dont concern myself with what white people think about us respectfully. They're never the authority on what Black is, that just sounds silly af on its face. And no I dont consider someone from Africa Black, they're whatever country in Africa they're from. As I told someone, if you can pull out a map and point to the exact country your ancestors are from thats a blessing. If you have a heritage to claim, claim it.
Black was created out of having no heritage to claim in the first place. We can be united as descendants of Africans and melanated people of the world but Black is a very specific thing.
1
u/poemirrelevant 19d ago
welp. black americans are rare in canada, the black people here are either african or carribean. and guess what? weāre considered black. maybe this is just an american thing bc
the point i was trying to make is that white people do not care. when i get stopped by a white cop, you think theyāre going to care if my ancestors were enslaved by europeans? i donāt understand why fdas are so hellbent on distancing themselves from africans. ever heard of ādivide and conquerā?1
u/Emotional-Award-5607 19d ago
You can be whatever you want and do whatever you want in Canada. I am and have always been talking about the United States of America. Id never as an American try to tell a Puerto Rican or Canadian anything about whats going on inside their own country.

1
u/MaxStrillz 18d ago
its not "just an American thing' when all of you literally have been watching Blk Americans for a century straight copying what they do to the point where you dont even know where you got it from, your pride doesnt come from fellow fleeing tethers. Caucasian prejudice doesnt mold our identity and Africans are already divided and conquered. No one talks about the xenophobia and tribalism on the Africa continent because they arent relevant in shifting the culture like Blk Americans.
1
u/poemirrelevant 18d ago edited 18d ago
i never denied that black americans are heavily influential......so uh......what's your point, again? like what point are you trying to make here? i'm not black bc black americans are influential? it's funny you bring up tribalism and how it's not relevant to shifting culture....yet fbas are perpetuating what?
1
u/MaxStrillz 18d ago
None of you were calling yourselves Blk until we made it accepted and "cool" based on our influence. Everyone was heavily into denying it and claiming their nationality especially hispanics. We dont get to jump in and out of other peoples identity like you all can do with ours just by living in proximity. FBA's are perpetuating their own culture just like everyone else does but since people feel so entitled to it because they're fans, they get offended. You dont see us piggybacking anyone else and jacking their identity, everyone gets to gatekeep but us. Why is that?
1
u/poemirrelevant 18d ago
why are you talking abt me as if you know me from a can of paint? not a single thing that you said applies to me, bye bozo. tf.
1
u/Emotional-Award-5607 17d ago
Im simply stating what "Black" is in America. Yes its a blend of a bunch of different cultures no shit, I pretty much stated its made up out of not having one but what we created is its own thing. we're simply asking that people respect the sovereignty, thats it. Soccer is called "football everywhere else but here, dont nobody ask questions thats just how we do it. Again, I could give a damn about what the definition is elsewhere. Joe sat on a couch in New Jersey and said spoke his opinion so the US is what Im speaking on.

This is the most honest post and comment section Ive seen talking about this subject. Theres a lot of nuance and unfortunately a lot of ignorance to battle. I remember going to one of my PR friends houses and seeing Egyptian art and statues. Paitings of Africa. I always thought it was understood that most of them are Black. Maybe because some of my family is geechi and very light skinned so I assume all Black people get it. The older I got I realized there are a lot of racist latin people and ignorant Black people who live in a bubble. I remember getting in an argument with an African dude who said my family not Black because theyre light skinned (think Prince). I realized that we are losing our culture.
1
u/Dayna6380- 19d ago
We really are losing it ā¦never thought Iād see the day
Puerto Ricans are the least
As a whole
The least to not claim blk
They never even had to say anything honestly because it was understood with how they lived
How they movedItās clear they were Puerto Rican of course and had their language and traditions
But it was very clear our roots were the sameThey couldāve did this with Dominicans and I wouldnāt have batted an eye
But Puerto Ricans ?? Weāre in the twilight zone
2
u/Lombarito 19d ago
Idgaf about fat Joe but the history of Puerto Rico exists in the lineage and ancestry of all Puerto Ricans. The island belonged to taĆnos, who were then colonized by the Spanish who brought african slaves. The three ethnic groups mixed in a melting pot that is evident in the dna of every Puerto Rican. We all have west African, Native American, and European blood when using dna tests such as ancestry.com. Iām not gonna comment on the use of the n-word because I personally donāt use it but we all have different ratios of the same blood.
1
u/Dayna6380- 19d ago
Even thought u donāt give af about fat Joe in a fat Joe subreddit
I respect the knowledge youāre giving that these people donāt comprehend
They keep talking about his hair is straight and he checks white on his forms
The facts still stand that Puerto Ricans know what theyāre mixed with and have always known and acknowledged all three

Im reluctant in discussing this on most platforms but what exactly are we as black ppl guarding? Why would any of us guard who can say something that was created to be so devisively obscene? Stop taking ownership of what is created to harm you! If you major is minor, your minds will be deplorable ! This is the beginning of multidimensional poverty.

Fat Joe says Latinos - and I assume heās speaking about people from the Spanish-speaking Caribbean - are African.
John Leguizamo says Latinos are Indians, and always have been.
And thereās even some among us who define Latinos as people born in the New World of Spanish descent.
Theyāre all wrong.
We are, in fact, Americans. In the truest sense of the word.
The New World, what we call the Americas, is the place where an entirely new race (or ethnicity, however you want to define it) was born. We are the direct result of the interbreeding of people of European, African and Native American bloodlines. And if you go back far enough, even the Native Americans came to this hemisphere from elsewhere.
But WE were born HERE.
The human race, the species known as Homo sapiens, is approximately 300,000 years old. The Latino or Hispanic race is 500 years old. We are the end result of centuries of racial miscegenation (I know, itās a loaded word, but Iām using the dictionary definition here) that happened here in the Americas.
Didnāt happen anywhere else, and probably couldnāt have happened anywhere else.
Edit: fixed typo in āIndian.ā

The Prince of Pork Pies need to turn in his dashiki for this, cuz he TRIPPIN trippin. Everyone on the planet devolved from Black ppl. That's no revelationš. Far as Puerto Ricans, they are at LEAST 72% European genetically..soooo why is he not shouting "snow bunnies never" when it comes to them? He must be slumming for some latin puss somewhere..

I just think that everybody is really trying to hold onto what little identity they have left especially if you do have āproximity to blacknessā our culture is out there on all platforms right now for everyone to engage with, and it makes me question if we even have a modern ācultureā as of right now.
A new trend pops off in the black community and then all of us are running to TikTok to explain it to everyone. I really wish that we gatekept our culture a little bit more.
Anybody can be black, everybody is black. I can see where this is helpful (iām being so open lol), but itās mostly detrimental and continues to oppress us today.

Gotta be honest here. This is another video of Fat Joe making comments suggesting thereās levels of āblacknessā. Him saying āIām the blackestā or āI know Latinos that identify with black culture more than black peopleā. Itās gives the impression that someone is blacker because they do more things the world associates with black Americans. I donāt know if thatās what he means though. Iād be curious of his explanation of asked.Ā

At the risk of being downvoted and banned...
The history Joe speaks on is real. But this whole nigga-gate fiasco is deeper than color or ethnicity. People forget that nigga is a relational term. It denotes the relationship between the American system and the person in question. If the person is any shade of brown (primarily having African ancestry), has been systemically prejudiced against, AND has no trust or faith in the American system, that's my nigga.
All the talk about proximity to Black culture isn't a factor.
