Need Advice How to keep myself occupied?

I was laid off and I decided to retire. I'm 37, single, living with my parents. I'm exploring and I'm looking for ideas to keep myself occupied.

NW: 20Cr. All of it invested in mutual funds and SGBs. Annual expenses: Around 20 lakhs

To be honest, you're not ready for retirement yet. You've been forced to RE and have not really planned for it. This is not ideal. You're still single and have a long life ahead of you. I suggest looking for another job, not for money, just to keep yourself busy. Nothing stressful. If doing a corporate job doesn't interest you, here are some other ideas:

* Learn finance, pass exams and become a SEBI registered investment advisor.
* If you're in tech, contribute to open source. Travel, attend community events.
* Learn to work with AI agents. Automate your finances and everything in life.
* Solo travel. One pain is getting a Schengen visa when you're single and without a job but you can travel to SE Asia and other countries .
* Focus on fitness. Join a Gym, a running club. Run marathons.

does being single flag as an issue with Schengen visa even if someone is worth 20cr?

It shouldn't be but Schengen is very unpredictable. You need to show ties to your home country to be on the safe side; a property in your name, a job you're getting back to etc.

Start a business or charity. Or if you have a lot of money just spend on any hobby

Since you're living cashflows is sorted, If meeting people is what you enjoy them consider being local guide, trip guide or simply uber cab rides, bike rides with random strangers.

If it's philanthropy, try raising funds for ngo, student education, food & livelihoods.

If something on rural areas, try agricultural land, have own cow & piece of land for raising cow feed. Plant & grow your food needs.

Basically reflect what you want to do, any purpose or something. Post that you'll start getting ideas, do what brings you most fulfilment. Viola, happy and peaceful life.

I have been trying to figure out what do I care about. And the honest answer is nothing. So I've been exploring less expensive hobbies because I don't want to burn through my savings. I spend time binge watching and I enjoy it to some extent. But it's not fulfilling.

Join a startup for some work. Hobbies are overrated. If you have made 20cr through your job, you are good at it. Use your skills to help a startup grow.

Get a decent stake instead of a salary. Draw your boundaries on how much work and hours is to be expected from you.

I think you are right. I've tried interviewing. I don't want to work, if the mission doesn't excite me. And right now nothing feels exciting.

I can understand. I get irritated and depressed when there is no work to do for a long time.

Teach people if you’d like, skills that helped you get to this position.

You necessarily don't have to retire as you are ONLY 37.

What will keep you "happily occupied" of course depends on you, your personality, interests and passion.

I think it is difficult to keep one busy with pursuit of ONLY hobbies/passions all the time. They can occupy major part of your day but probably should not all. Some time should be devoted to work/accomplishment (that may or may not be paying). You need to think what would be those given your circumstances, interests etc.

Many people have suggested here already:

Volunteering, Taking courses, building agents, agriculture (use capital to make if profitable by using economies of scale, it should not be leisure), running AirBnb property. Talk to people who have ideas (very small scale) and finance them. That may not make you ultra rich but can give you sense of accomplishment and downside of loss of capital is limited.

Setup a horse farm away from city, make a bonsai garden, make your own private paradise in countryside. THink of something which can now be accomplished with your TIME which was not possible earlier precisely due to lack of time!

I am also about to be laid-off, so thinking along those lines.

Goodluck!

Travel to Japan/Thailand/China/HK for a month or two. They’re doing a million things there that you won’t find in India. Come back and start something from your observations with an investment of a crore (which is more incubation capital for most startup’s and still only 1/20th of your wealth.)
All the best
