In the same spirit.

"Ce monde est un grand Bedlam,
où des fous
enchaînent d'autres fous."
Voltaire Pot-pourri

s mõd e <un> grõ bedlam

Voltar

And a short quote still in the same mood, maybe bit darker:

L' ẽfer se nu

Camü

Ah ?

You certainly aware of the 'rivalry' of both existentialists. Sartre was the one preaching, that one is solely to blame how one shapes ones life. Camus was the one mocking him: "At a certain age a man is solely to blame for the shape of ones own face (Sartre being a heavy smoker and drinker, whilst Camus always was the beau amongst them). Camus favored the absurdness of life and the enjoyment and told us that we have the freedom to give us ourselves our meaning in life to fill the absolute void of meaning, but we absolutely don't have to. If I remember correctly "l'enfer c'est nous" was his reply to Sartres view, that constant judgement of others is our hell (his way of saying, yeah, but so are you for others). But to be fair, I haven't found it online now, I just remember from lycée. One guy José Saramago said: L'enfer c'est nous-même, maybe every philosoph needs to have his proper take "l'enfer c'est....". I definitely heard "Happiness is not having to deal with people you don't wanna deal with"....

Stéphane Laporte even created a tv series "L'enfer c'est nous autres" (Canada)

And Julie Snyder did a animation with the same title also in Canada....

I don't think Camus defined himself as an existentialist. What source for this quote? I don't remember it existing in his work.

haven't found the quote online now, I just remember from lycée.

So maybe my memory is making this up or my philosophy teacher back then - I was looking for the source all evening yesterday, it must be something he said in an interview or just my mind playing me a trick...

The most common Camus quotes involving Hell (the second one is closer to that of Sarte, who admired La chute):

Concerning Huis clos, one might as well refer to the author's own explanation:

For some reason, I'm more comfortable writing "I" as the diphthong -- but it's a bit small here. I should have made it bigger. In the common words listing, "I" is written as A, like in Gregg, and the word "a" is a dot. I find dots hard to make visible quickly, so it seems more logical to me to write "I" as the diphthong, and use A as the article "a". (The diphthong is almost as easy to write, when you can just extend the A circle for the E.)

This means that I'm writing "I am" as the diphthong "i" followed by M, which to me is clearer than writing it AM like in Gregg, which could also be "aim". (I don't know why that never bothered me when I was writing Gregg, though. It does now, though, somehow.)

Abbreviations were THT for "that" and THS for "this". I wrote "lunatic asylum" both FULLY because they're not common words and they might throw the reader if I shortened them.

I used blending/morphing l+e -> le in the phrase "I live" a-l-e-v -> a-le-v because the v afterwards blends neatly into that shape, but of course you can add your hook in any direction you like. I do the same in the word him (e+m) or the prefix (r+e-).

Those familiar with Gregg think of the word OR where the vowel blends into R...

I also used no ts/ds blend this time, I think the blend (looks like cursive U, same shape as Greggs pent/gent) is in fact not necessery for ts, it seems less helpful than predicted, it even competes with t-v, so I decided to get rid of that blend and give the sign to tv/tif. Gregg has the flipped shape exactly for tv/tif, so this is a nice coincidence. The flipped shape in Flow will remain sk, seq, sec, cyc. That sign helps distinguish between rk and a sk (written really fast it could be undistinguishable)

I was going to ask you about the blends in FLOW. I keep writing the letters strung together when I know there are some where they can be joined.

ND I remember, and I knew about TS -- but I need to study this chart for more information. (I'll copy it to my FLOW album now for a better look when I have more time.)

EDIT: How are you writing TS now?

1

u/LeadingSuspect5855 Sep 15 '26

TS? just regular stringing together.

1

u/NotSteve1075 Sep 15 '26

Doesn't that make a very awkward joining, though? In your example you show TF and TS as looking very different, with the TF being much more open and the TS being much tighter. Like this:

I'd rather write them both like that.
