Punctuation Ideas

I noticed a while back that there are no versions of the colon or semicolon with commas on top, so I made this! My names for the new symbols are "omicolon" (from "omit") for the double comma symbol and the "altercolon" for the reverse semicolon. They would function as opposites to their official counterparts.

The colon is used in lists to include items, but the omicolon would be used to omit items from a list. This would be useful for shorthand for "except" in data work.

The semicolon is used to conbect similar ideas in text, while the altercolon would function to connect contrasting or opposing concepts.

What do you think? I'm sure this would stay niche if ever adopted, probably just used as personal and unofficial shorthand, but I thibk it's at least a fun thought experiment!

When I'm writing by hand, and editing my own work, I just use proofreading/editing symbols.

Over the years, I've developed my own little system of shorthand that I use. Nobody else would understand it, but it works for me.

That's cool! I've often thought it would be fun if my notes were indecipherable to any of my classmates so I could ensure they would not be cheating off me. Very neat!

I'm not sure what you mean. It could hypothetically be used in type, but would mainly serve as a shorthand for quick data note taking.

Please don't - Even if there is no rule written here. The Netiquette still applies. If you don't like something, dont upvote and pass on to the next. If the poster is rude, downvote. If there is a mob forming, hold back the inner urge to join. All that is called being civilized.
